I'm amazed by the amount of acreage being leased or mineral rights being purchased that is owned by people who live outside this area. You know the drill. Grandpa farmer died years ago and his children and grandchildren who are living in Houston, south Louisiana, Florida, and wherever else but here own a share of the 200 acres that belonged to Grandpa farmer. I guess all that migration from here over the last 30 years is about to bite us in the rump in terms of big bucks leaving here. I know one guy in New Orleans who may make $30 million in royalties from property in Caddo and Desoto he inherited. He probably can't even find it on a map!

The Ark-La-Tex will be fine. No need to manufacture outrage.

I see your point. All you have to do is drive around the rural areas of Caddo, Bossier, Red River, & Natchitoches parishes. You will see miles and miles of land just sitting there. It was active farm land at one time, or at least a homestead with a few acres. A generation of two later.... it is in the hands of people without any ties to the land or the area other than a long dead grandparent, uncle, etc.

However, even if no money from bonuses/royalties from this particular land was spent in the Ark-La-Tex, this area will still see a significant impact from drilling the land. The direct and indirect economic impact from just drilling the wells and all of the various support work required will be substantial.

Also, there is much more land owned by locals than by out of town & absentee land owners. Don’t worry about this area not benefiting. We will be just fine.

On a side note, I was in the Shreveport passport office in the main Post Office in early May. There were four different couples/families from DeSoto obtaining passports. All had recently signed leases and were planning trips out of the country. I guess I could have complained that they were spending their money in the Bahamas, Mexico, or Europe instead of the local mall or casino. However, I was happy they were able to have a vacation they would not have been able to afford just a few months earlier.
Wow. That is a lot of money. I hope they spread some of that wealth around here. Give to the local charities and universities etc.
Hello.... haven't lived in Shreve for 45 years....still monitor & visit Caddo fairly often.....even tho I live a thousand miles away...agree with Shaq reply...
I am exactly what is described in the first email. Great grandfather was a farmer/rancher in DeSoto-Red River. At one point, I was told he had in excess of 3,000 acres. Only about 700 acres left now. While we do not get back to the area as much as we'd like, the location and area still holds a VERY real and symbolic attachment to our heritage. Not sure what that will mean in dollar terms, but the affinity and the emotional strings are still strong.
700 acres isn't anything to sneeze at!
That is America. Do not be a hater. If his grandpa gave the land to him god bless him. The state will get its share of the taxes. The people drilling the well and producing on this guys property will live, buy food, gas, etc...., in Louisiana.

Your point hints at a bit of envy. You need to embrace everyone who owns property in the NWLA because that person can become a member of a group and that group will have power by virtue of being a group. You need everyone whether in state or out of state or out of town. Open your mind to the real matter to be contended with and that is the negotiations with the o/g company.

This kind of talk helps no one. I bet that guy has been paying property taxes for years or he would have lost it at tax sale by now. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
