In a letter regarding our lease, there is a name and '"R" Prospect.' Is that important to remember? Will it mean anything....like the name of the well, if it was drilled, or is it just a name for the sake of naming it? Just curious.

Sometimes a company will give a prospect a code name for security purposes. Then, if several persons from the company are discussing work in a public place, such as a restaurant, or talking on a cell phone, it is less likely that someone overhearing the conversation at the next table would learn something about the prospect that the company wished to keep private.

You see this often with large companies opereating offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, where the stakes are even higher. They can be quite inventive with some of their names. There is no rhyme or reason to the selection. Often it is just at a whim of whoever is in charge.
So, basically, it is meaningless as far as any future use. Thanks so much for your info.
