These 2 Canterra units are in the extreme northeast corner of W.Fel. There is a rumor that Cortez will be forming some units just south of these Conterra units and that Halcon will drill them - rumor only - I can't confirm this. Would be good news if true.

Skip,

This seems like good news to me.

I am hoping for activity in Weyanoke, but this is in the parish, so I am happy.

Thank you.

Conterra is listed as an operator by the Office of Conservation but has no wells listed.  This likely indicates that they have recently applied for and been approved for operator status.  The don't have a website.  There is very little on the web regarding the company.  James, could be good news but receiving a field order for a drilling & production unit does not require that a company drill a well.  They will still need to apply for a permit to drill.  The state approval of the unit application will allow Conterra to act as operator or to designate an operator.  We'll just have to stay tuned.  Maybe this will bring some new members to GHS.  Help pass the word.  You're welcome and good luck.

Conterra is a subsidiary of Contango Oil & Gas (NYSE: MCF), a shall Gulf of Mexico operator that recently merged with Crimson Exploration.

Hey Andrew,

I saw a Conterra pick-up truck in Zachary day before yesterday. Did not realize who it was at the time. They must be ready to move on the area and do something.

Joe,

That's good to hear. I've followed the company as a potential stock investment for some time, and I really like the people there and what they stand for. I had a great deal of admiration for their late founder, and I hope they continue to run the company based on his uniquely owner-friendly philosophy.

James,

Encana has 2 units near Weyanoke. They also prepared an access road to a 6 acre pad on the John Hamilton Willis property in Wakefield last year on a proposed unit just above Firetower Road at Hwy 61. The unit has not yet applied for but it adjoins the 2 applied for units. I personally think the depth at around 14000 ft. has been part of the holdup on drilling in W. Fel. The one TMS well in the parish so far is the Devon Murphy well just below the Ms. line at 13800 ft. Hopefully Encana and Goodrich will drill in 2014 in W. Fel. Both have a lot of property leased and some of those leases are nearing their option period. However, it would be nice if they got their drilling and completion techniques perfected before they try the deeper areas of W. Fel.

Skip,

This is interesting news to me. I agree with you that I would like to see anyone drilling to know how to manage the type of layers and strata they will encounter. Horizontal drilling issues in the TMS could spell a worse failure in deep drilling because of the cost. I wouldn't like to see companies shy away because of the risk of costly failure. On the bright side I am hoping that the deep wells will be more likely to produce greater volumes because of the high resistivity; I don't know if my hopes are based in science or imagination.

I appreciate your clear information--contrasted with my guessing.

Thank you.
