Rumor circulating that Halcon is coming to northeast W. Fel. as operator in WI well with Cortez. Anyone leased to Cortez in W. Fel.? Where?

Comment by William h Adams on October 14, 2013 at 16:33
I have already leased
Thanks Steve

Steve,

I don't have property in either Contango unit. My property is in Weyanoke on the Como Road 1/2 mile after it intersects the Greenwood/Highland road. I hope that the area does well enough that someone may be interested in leasing.

I appreciate your kindness in all your comments. You are very helpful. Thank you.

I think Contango is planning to drill soon. If you haven't leased and have mineral rights in either unit, you might call them and see what they offer. Usually it is better $ to lease than not to lease. They may have overlooked you. It is doubtful that they would intentionally force pool anyone that would willingly sign a lease. IMO

Steve,

Thank you for your complete and helpful information; especially for your kind answer to my question.

I have a small interest in these new units but the majority is plum creek
You think they are trying to tie up leases

The Contango units are in the far northeast corner of W. Fel., where it borders E. Fel and the Wilkinson County line - as the crow flies maybe 15-20 miles from Weyanoke? Encana has 6 units closer to Weyanoke - the closet are 3 on the west side of Hwy 61 near Mulberry Hill Rd.(Wakefield) and 3 are on the east side of Hwy 61 just west of these Contango units. Weyanoke is in a good area but the TMS is deep there, 14k-14500 ft. - could be better production rates due to more pressure, but will be more $ to drill. IMO

In Louisiana an operator may apply to the Office Of Conservation to form one or more drilling and production units with no requirement for minimum of unit acres under lease and no commitment to drill any wells.  It's a reasonable indication of an intent to develop but does not require a timeline for unit wells to be drilled.  Field Orders resulting from unit applications are good indefinitely until dissolved by subsequent unit application.  Timing of development is dependent on the terms of the leases involved.

If you look at my post of Nov. 28, 2011 below will get an idea of how long it may take to see drilling start. Contango has only 23,000 acres in the TMS so it may not take as long as it has for Encana  - Encana has had several units formed for 2 years now, but hasn't drilled yet. I am hopeful that we are about to see activity pick up for all areas of the TMS.
