Can someone tell me where this well is and anything about it? It appears to be, from what I know, in the central to southern part of the parish. It was just permitted this month. But, at 10000', is it in the Haynesville Shale?

The well is near Kites Landing on the south end of Toledo Bend. It is going to be a horizontal well in the James Lime. It will still be very important to all landowners in Sabine Parish. I will be keeping a close eye on it myself.
I understand they have set surface casing and continue to drill. Anyone heard anything recent? I also hear of LOTS of seismograph crew activity in that general area. Anyone know what their range is? Over toward Florien ? South toward Vernon?
You are correct about the seismic activity. I just drove up from the dam up La 191 and saw the signs: siesmic crew ahead and low flying aircraft. These were right at the Kites Landing rd.
I talked to them a week ago and they were doing a 10 mile block. They were going north to dess road and east from 191 towards clearwater. Don't know where to after they finished that block.
The well is permitted to 10,500' total measured depth (TMD), but only to 7050 true vertical depth (TVD) which would not penetrate the Haynesville. The targeted formation on the permit is Austin Chalk.
Do you know how deep the Austin Chalk is in this area?
In doing more research, it's interesting that they've put Austin Chalk as the target. James Lime would have made more sense, however I'm still trying to understand the Louisiana reservoir nomenclature. I'm much more familiar with Texas. The producing wells in Louisiana which are designated as Austin Chalk have followed a band through Vernon and Rapides Parishes. Those wells were deep - around 15-17,000' TVD. I'm unable to find records of wells designated as Austin Chalk in Sabine, but I'll do more research next week.
Hoe to you know they have put the Austin Chalk as the target? How deep are the Newton County wells? The Vernon wells around Sugartown and Pitkin (just south of Fort Polk) are in the 18,000 range. I have heard Austin Chalk will be a target in much of lower Sabine Parish, but deeper.
I work for a company called Drillinginfo.com. We track permits, completions, production, leasing activity, etc. across a number of states. My interest is personal, though, as my family has mineral rights in Sabine Parish. Our website is an easy way to find the information, but does cost to subscribe. With a little digging, you can find the scanned permit to drill on the state site - www.sonris.com. You would need to find the serial number for the well, then search for the document image. I did just double check our information against the permit image from the state to ensure they did indeed list the austin Chalk as the target.
I looked up the Newton County, TX wells which produced in the Austin Chalk. Looks like TVD for most of those wells was around 11-12000'.
The Austin Chalk is in the 14000 to 15000ft range in South Rapides the 17000 & 18000 figures have the horizontal lenghts included. I would think the chalk wouldn't be as deep in Sabine.
Early this week, there was some activity at the site, trucks etc., but now it looks deserted. Any one know if they are finished and did they find anything?

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
