Les B, is that 1198 wells drilled or is it wells and permits?
Jffree1, the 1198 includes all permitted Haynesville Shale wells including those already drilled or drilling.
Thanks.
So does this mean that operators have roughly 204 HBP wells to go in Desoto? Is there a way to find out exactly how many wells for HBP there are for a specific operator?
Parkdota, there are ~ 150 sections in DeSoto that have not yet been unitized so the total additional HBP wells would be closer to 350. I do not have a breakdown by specific operator.
Les, would be beneficial if you could update this chart and post every three or four months. Thanks for this one, look's as if Sabine has some real growing room.
Les, this may be a stupid question but, does sections with existing wells HBP have an impact on if and when an operator is willing to unitize a section, especially if the HBP wells/leases have no pugh clause. And how do they normally settle these type of leases? For an example, in DeSoto and Sabine parishes, Nabors has drilled many oil wells and I'm sure they also have a lot of leases. Does this have an impact on other minerial owners in the same section with Nabors and/or other lease holder/operator?
Waltcop, there are no stupid questions. Your question is somewhat complicated as it depends on the specific situation but here are some comments.

Generally I do not think existing wells should impact the operator's willingness to create a Haynesville Unit for the section. Existing wells that hold leases are more likely to impact the timing for drilling new wells as the operator may not be concerned about lease expiration dates. Of course this is only true if almost all the acreage in the section is HBP.

Many shallow oil wells are drilled on a lease basis rather than on a unit basis. If that is the case then such oil wells would only hold their leases and not any other acreage in the section. On the other hand, some oil wells are drilled on 80 acre, 160 acre or 320 acre units so these wells could hold larger amounts of acreage in the section. As you say if the leases do not have vertical Pugh clauses then the Haynesville Shale rights could be HBP also by these oil wells.

I am not sure if this has provided any information regarding your question.
Thanks for the summary, Les. Now I'm wondering, thinking of doing some of my "fuzzy" math to "guesstimate" how long it MAY take to drill all that with the rig count we have in place. That way I'll know how much patience I should have before checking my mailbox everyday for peanuts & acorns. lol
