Does anyone have any idea of how many acres have already been leased in Sabine Co. and which company did the most leasing?

LINDA,
WHO IS TELLING YOU OR WHERE ARE YOU READING THAT THE HS IS NOT IN SAN AUGUSTINE? Check out the Texas RR Com.
site. Wells are being permitted down to 16,000.
The first Katherine Von Goetz well is a wildcat/horizontal and the last KVG was permitted to 16,000 in July. [amended in Aug. to wildcat/16,000] Fossil Resources, Inc., Cowboys, in Sept., was permitted to 14,000. DO NOT allow ANYONE to tell you the HS is not in San Augustine. I haven't heard ayone even trying to make that argument when it comes to leasing and negotiating a bonus.
Check out the back page of the SA Tribune dated Sept 25th. Encana has a full page ad and has had an add for the last few weeks. There is HS in San Augustine County or the big boys wouldn't be here.
I love you!! I can't access the newspaper ad. What is the phone number?
318-932-8602
The large percentage of royalties could be explained also by the absolutely incredible volume of gas coming out of HS wells to date and the Fact that 25% is the bottom offer in the Barnett now.... ya think?
Not a Dumb question at all. They know the HS is under this county. Old seismic data mostly and probably some limited well data although you are right that nothing has been drilled here to those depths. What they don't know for sure is what the thickness is exactly and just exactly where it falls off into what is considered to be "too deep" (and just exactly what is too deep with today's technology?). There is supposition that the HS could go all the way to the Gulf but that it would be really, really deep down there.
Here's my question: If it is in Sabine Parish to the east and in San Augustine Co. to the west...did it skip good old Sabine County? Of course not. Did it stop at highway 103 or highway 83??? I don't think so. I don't think the roads were laid out to follow geological formations thousands of feet below the surface nor were county boundaries or state lines laid out that way either. Those are just arbitrary boundaries (and that boundary is different with every company) that someone chose to delineate their initial foray into uncharted territory.

That is what this HS is in Sabine County...totally (for the most part) uncharted territory. The boudaries will continue to develope and expand and contract just as they have done in the Barnett Shale and in the Haynesville to date (in the more developed areas).

Let's just keep hoping that we get some well data soon and that it's all good. I don't think there would be so many leasing companies here just on a ruse to cover their tracks, either (see next comment).
I was wondering how far south they think this play goes? From what you are saying jffree is that they really don't know right now. Data will tell. I did like your comment about San Augustine, highway 103 and 83. Right in my territory. We are right at 705 and 103. I enjoy your reads.
Thank you JWC.

No they don't know...for sure. I think they have some pretty solid scientific "opinion" about where it is and, like I said before, that varies with whichever company you happen to be looking at.

It is only a theory, but I have been looking at well permits in Jasper County because I was told about some really deep permits.
Well, there they are, around Kirbyville, of all places.

RRC site index, query drilling permits, Jasper Co., see results page 38.

It seems that they "could be" HS vertical test wells, although they are permitted for the Austin Chalk, because they are permitted to 14000 and 16000 VERTICAL (too deep for AC). I have been trying to get a more educated opinion on these wells but so far no luck.

If this is, in fact what they are doing, they could be trying to define the southern boundary which may or may not be good for Sabine Co. depending on the well results.

When these guys get some well units put together here, we will begin seeing permits, I think. There is just too much money on the table to be trying to tie up land just to throw other companies off the trail.
Jffree1,
Thats the kind of information and explanation that makes this site so valuable to those of us without a whole lot of experience in this sort of thing. Thanks and I truly do appreciate you sharing your thoughts
You're welcome.
Acreage in pool? Our best has been from EOG, $5,000/acre and 25% near Rosevine. 420 acres in pool.
jffree1, I appreciate you sharing this also. I keep referring back to the wells in Sabine Parish, but I know about the Murray well and know they have a 24 hr. guard on the Olympia and plan to drill two more wells beside the Murray. I think it is interesting to read about what was happening in DeSota Parish and Sabine Parish two or three months ago. It seems there is a replay in Shelby and Sabine Co going on over here.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
