APC may be letting drilling permits on recent leaseholds expire, but some very large unit acreage obtained in the late 1990's  is presently held by producing wells in the western LA chalk. They'll do virtually anything to keep these marginal wells producing and keep the acreage under lease. For the most part, I believe APC sold the producing chalk rights off to second tier operators years ago, but retained all other depths. Go figure.

Within weeks of the Macondo blow out APC was back on-shore buying leases in the southern part of Vernon Parish with the North line of Beauregard Parish being their southern boundary. They also bought some leases in T1N-R1W in Rapides Parish.

Yes, dry land locations have never looked so good since Macando.

Midstates and a string of shell companies took stuff south of the Vernon/Beauregard line and on in to Allen Parish.

Midstates has some leases in the South Vernon area but has most of the North area of Beauregard leased, that is down to Hwy 190 West of Deridder. The CEO of Midstates, John Crumb, got fired and his last day was 3-31-2014. so it will be interesting to see the direction Midstates takes going forward.

Wow. Poor fella. Well, they have some kind words for Crum.

Thanks John.

It kind of shows that there is oil there to produce. But at the cost of those wells will they ever be commercial or is it just a way to HBP?

The key is it is down there. Just need the right technology to produce it commercially. Most of these wells had some type of drilling and or completion issues. Some wildcat will make good money in the Austin Chalk. They only need the right talent and technology.

What about the Edinburg well south of Simmsport?  It was a dry hole or not enough production to spit about.  It was drilled by Anadarko right after LaCour #43 by the same crew that drilled LaCour #43.

I'll see if I can look into that one. My next venture is to query AUS wells in LA.

Here is my AUS query of producing wells. Next to tally them up!
