Ensign US Drilling SW Rig #753 reported 9/5, Rigging Up with Proj. Spud Date 9/7.  There is no permit to drill available in the state database at this time.  I will add a link to the well file when it is entered in the database.

DNR is reporting that Williams is permitted.

Ensign Drilling SW $753 reported Spud 9/10, 3 days Drilling Ahead @ 130', 9/12.

Ensign Drilling SW #753 reported 9 days Waiting On Orders @ 610', 9/12.

Skip, wonder why they are waiting on orders at about 600 feet? That was dated 9/12, wonder if they are moving again?

We can both wonder on that one, rookie.  The rig report only comes out once a week.  Maybe the report next Friday will clear things up.

Ensign Drilling SW #753 reported 16 days Waiting On Orders @ 3491', 9/26.

Ensign Drilling SW #753 reported 23 days Drilling Ahead @ 10958', 10/3.

Ensign Drilling SW #753 reported 30 days Drilling Ahead @ 11,442', 10/10.

Skip,

Can you explain your comments?  What does "30 days drilling ahead @ 11,442', 10/10" mean?  Please forgive my ignorance.

William

The well has been drilling for 30 days and they are down to 11,442 feet as of October 10.

The day that a rig starts to drill a well is referred to as the "spud date".  The term, spud, translates as the drill bit hitting the dirt.  That is day one.  So thirty days is how long the rig has been drilling the well as of the report date.  Drilling Ahead is one of a short list of common terms for the status of a rig.  Others are Assigned, Moving On, Rigging Up, Waiting On Orders.  Drilling Ahead denotes normal operations which besides actual drilling can include tripping pipe (pulling the drill string out of the hole to change a bit), conditioning the hole, running casing, cementing casing, logging, coring, etc.  11,442' is the measured depth of the well on the report date.  10/10 is October 10, the date of the report.  The lingo of drilling, and exploration and production in general, is not something that the general public is familiar with and there are no ignorant questions and no need to apologize for what you don't know,  GHS was created to teach the basics to the extent that it allows mineral owners to understand the process, ask informed questions and learn how to manage their minerals.

If you look around the website you will find a lot of valuable information that is not on the Main Page or in the individual groups.  Be alert to the fact that we discuss activity in multiple states and their mineral codes and laws differ.  You can get started by clicking this link.

Skip,

We own property east of Kentwood, LA.  We are expecting to be in the Greenlaw or Silver Creek Field.  I notice the price of oil dropping.  Is there a price that would cause GDP to stop drilling?  And thanks for the last answer and thanks for the patience with us rookies.
