CS,

I can get into both the lite and standard files with no problem. My problem is the ROD application. I get an error message no matter what I do.

Joe we didn't have a problem with XP and Sonris. I dropped XP two years ago when I built our newest and fastest computer. Our client wanted my son to build the maps using Arc GIS. Files get quite large while using Arc and he was having problems with the 6 core AMD computer locking up. I learned a long time ago that you start with a large well ventilated computer case with plenty of fans and a 1000 watt power supply, then all you have to do to up-grade is change out motherboards, CPUs, ram and sometimes video cards. I like running on an AMD platform with mostly Asus parts. It use to be under Moore's Law that computer power would double every 2 years but that is not the case anymore. This 2 year old computer is still at close to the top in performance.

Wonder how long they will keep this well going with the price of oil at $77 a barrel?  The price is dropping like a rock.  I heard that $70 is the cut off in the Permian Basin, costs about $10 to move it to storage or a refinery, so the real price cut off is $60 or so.  Means they will stop drilling in less than lucrative locations.

Chip,

The price of oil has nothing to do with keeping the well producing. Its the acreage that is HBP that is the key. That has far more value than the price of the oil produced. They just can't afford to drill new wells at the  $70 dollar price and justify the cost of drilling. But that will change in the future. I feel that the price we are seeing is due to the Saudi's trying to produce the Shale drillers out of the market. How long they can afford to do that remains to be seen. They have overhead costs also.

Joe, I like the thoughts.  But with new oil in the Permian Basin and the Bakken, it is not likely to come down soon.  I like the idea that the Saudi's have cut their prices.  That will put the squeeze on OPEC and Russia.  Already the Iranians were complaining and now they will really holler.  Not a peep out of Venezuela or Nigeria.  And Libya is back on line so Europe is getting all the oil they need at the moment.  I expect the price of oil will drop further.

Oil is now at $55 or so a barrel.  Varies by whether it is Brent Crude or West Texas Intermediate.  No comments on Louisiana Sweet crude.  Things have gone quite.  I noted somewhere where the number of rigs in operation in Louisiana was up one where  most everywhere else the number is down.  There are a few working around here on the Barnett Shale but not much else.  The big issue in Texas right now is tha the City of Denton has voted to ban fracking.  Both the legislature and courts are gearing up and I figure the Denton action will be crushed by both entities.  But with present prices being what they are things may just go quite here too.  There is a big rig just south of Denton and can be seen from I-35W.

Happy New Year to all.

Happy New Year Chip,

Well there are things happening in the AC play even with the low price of oil. I've been talking to a number of people in the industry and they don't think this price fall will last much more than 6 months or so. They expect the price to be in the 70's to 80's by the end of the 2015. On the other hand they don't expect the price to go back to 100's any time soon.

Now for an update on the AC: Someone picked up the Anadarko acreage and someone else has picked up the Pryme acreage. There is someone leasing acreage East of Zachary It appears to me to be an AC play. They are leasing 2-3 miles North of the shelf and 3-5 miles South. This started around the Deerford area with a 15,000 acre block which they leased with no problems. They are now moving West into the edge of Zachary. It looks like they are working on another 15,000 acre block. I look for this to continue to the Mississippi River. That's where the Anadarko leases ended. So the acquisition of those leases may be part of an AC play that is beginning. Those leases with the current leasing may total 250,000 acres or more. I hope these people know what they are doing.

If you hear anyone top leasing in your area I would appreciate you letting me know.

All is quite on the "Coast of Pointe Coupee."  The Anadarko lease expired mid summer and not a word since then.  Rumbles about TMS to the North in West Feleciana and east of that area and above it in Mississippi.  But nothing going on around the "shelf."  Zachary is not far away, there is even a Guaranty Bank branch in Zachary (a New Roads bank with branches in Iberville, West Baton Rouge, and East Baton Rouge parishes).   The new bridge made Zachary close to New Roads and Pointe Coupee parish area.  Of course, who really knows where the shelf is?  No one, some drillers may think they do.  Oh well, it is a new year, going to be a quite year until energy prices rise again.

The someone that picked up the Anadarko leasehold is Minichi Energy.  There is a discussion thread in the archive from the time of the announcement.  Minichi Energy stills has no wells listed with LA Office of Conservation.

Thanks for the AC update. I have been so excited about what is going on here in the Permian I have stopped following the AC. Glad to see someone interested in the AC again maybe someone will re-permit that second Lacour unit again but as of now does not seem likely since my lease expired and no one has tried to release.

So Skip none of the wells that Anadarko drilled are producing? If that's correct then Minichi Energy doesn't even have leases that are HBP.

I didn't review APC wells, Joe.  I only looked at Minichi.
