I have noticed in 16-14 that the well sites are located mostly in the corner of every other section. Is it possible for them to drill from this well site into the other adjoining sections and hold the leases in all four sections?

Yes in most cases, it depends on their negotiated lease with the person who owns the drill site land.
Wouldn't that surpass the highly taughted 1920 acre unit that CHPK is trying to get done.Seems like the makings of a horrible friendship come HBP royalty time divided by 4 with the 2560 , instead of divided by 3 with the 1920 acre unit. I am beginning to think we may not be able to work together after all my friend.
Hmmm?
I thought a well had to be drilled in your section to be considered in your unit.
Theoretically, couldn't the O&G companies drill all the way around a section without actually drilling into it and drain that section without leasing a square foot of that section so long as they stayed just across the section boundary lines?
Not sure about this Shale gas being sucked out like pocket gas P.G. I have heard that the frac doesn't create that much of a free flowing area but I dont know how far from the drill stem it flows. Rumor says that only 40 to 50 feet around bore hole. Doesn't sound like much of an area to me.
That sounds good! At least if they aren't buying it, they aren't stealing it then either, right?
You ain't gonna hang me up on that one ! HA! HA!
no snake, they are simply using a drill site out of the section to drill in the section.
Randy,

Don't they have to scoot over a few feet to drill a seperate vertical bore. Four sections worth of gas can't come up the same bore can it? How would each sections gas be measured?

Thanks
No, unlike in wells offshore, they can't go multiple directions off one borehole. But they can drill a hole, scoot over, drill a hole, scoot over... etc
Actually, they can drill in multiple directions. If they get a unit and authorization, the technical/physical drilling is the same as offshore. I've seen 6000' deep wells with over 20,000' of exposed section due to hairy fishbone type wells onshore. You could drill a well in the section and have a branch of the well head due north, then drill another lateral due south. you could also stack them vertically as well.s
One of our operations guys explained to me why that isn't possible here. But I'm not knowledgeable enough to remember everything he said.... I looked back at my notes and I didn't write it all down.

Dale's guy that's over all of their drilling operations did us a seminar and that was one of the questions.

Randy
But if you are in the section that the site is on wouldn't you still have to be a unit to go into other sections ?
