Does anybody want to divide up the site between Shale and everything else?

I would like to know if anyone else besides me is interested in a split home page with Shale threads on top, then all of the other banter below in a separate thread section. This separate thread section could still be active where the hot threads go to the top, but they would not compete with the Shale threads. Thoughts anyone? The current tone of the site seems to be non Shale.

Jim, they're called "forum trolls." And just about the only way to deal with them is banning user names if they can't shape up. Or even banning IP ranges if they persist in making aliases.

And to everyone else, they're also why peer moderation doesn't really work. Or "off topic" or "spouting off" areas or whatever. Think about it from their perspective, the goal is to get a response, and trolling other trolls isn't much fun. You have to go where the game is.
if this site is left as it is, I would like to see the [off the wall] COMMENTS that has nothing to do with the discussion DELETED.
Shale Geo, aka(jay) and all other respectable pros,
after 112 comments im not sure i have anything original to say but i want my opinion to be weighed in this debate. it occurs to me that there is something that draws us all to this web site. the problem is, what it is for each person is almost as varied as our personalities. i assume that if we all went out to eat we would not all order the same thing.that is part of what makes this site a success is the various characters that we have on here. that is the spice of life and in turn makes life worth living.
i have been to some of yalls home pages and have seen the boycott proposal and can not say i blame you. if you feel your opinions and expertise are not being appreciated then there should be no incentive for yall to provide it. let there be no mistaking it, i appreciate it! and i think there are very many others too! i think i joined this sight last may or june. i immediality reconized this was an educational oppritunity and have been a faithful reader since. i have never taken anything for granted in respect to the valuable info ive been able to obtain.
now to get to the answer for your question,
yes, i would like to see a divided screen between shale and non shale.i dont have a problem with non shale its just lately the discussions seem to be leaning a little to the non shale catagory. i think i know why! there just hasnt been alot of O&G activity going on right now and its a good way to distract from that fact.the main reason i think for seperating the two is that sometimes a very educational disscussion can get bumped to the bottem of the list thus wasting the valuable time of the poster and not reaching as many people as it should.
dont get me wrong i like knowing everything about yall, from what types of tomatoes you grow to what song fits your lives or mabey what chores you dont like to do. but the real reason i come to this sight is to read what the pros say and share info with other owners.

i dont think the pros are suggesting to banish all non shale discussions but rather have a seperation of the two. it seems like a seperation of church and state to me. im all for a little distraction every now and then, isnt everybody? there is plenty of room for all types on this site except for the mean spirited and the instigators, and i think that is who the proposed boycott is aimed at. just to demonstrate that i too have a lighter side and a sense of humor i will be starting a non-shale discussion that i hope you will participate in.
yours truly,

Rosebud - As I understand it from communicating with some members, this isn't/wasn't an issue about topics or who thought their type was most important. From my dialogues with others, it seems that

1. some members were offended by the quality of the language in some dialogues. Some members were going back & forth hijacking threads, and inserting some off topic commentary with some colorful remarks & vocabulary.

2. there is/was a game of "baiting" going on, which I once inadvertently tripped upon in an attempt to deescalate an exchange and to peer moderate. It intentionally draws members off topic, or towards another topic, and the discussion disintegrates.

3. some posts weren't viewed as "substantive.' I guess as being relative to the topic, not moving the discussion along productively, not at the level that the originator of the topic wanted ... like I said I'm guessing because the term "substantive" is a subjective term, subject to the interpretation of the individual. And we have no measure for determining an individual's levels for the quality of a response. To apply the word "substantive" is merely an expression of one's opinion.

Your last statement is so correct as it is human nature to be sociable, whether introvert or extrovert. And at some point we all want to talk and learn about a variety of things. We all have a variety of interests and viewpoints... and we can't sit and just stagnate. My hat is off to you and the others as moderators because it is a difficult job that requires impartiality and the wisdom of Solomon.

IMO, after talking with a few folks and reading what was said on this thread, the problem isn't/wasn't about the topics or the placement or the numbers. It is/was about the quality of some exchanges and the way those exchanges are/were being achieved. And it was viewed by members as causing a disruption in productive communications.

Best always - sesport :0)
I agree 100%. Just the facts, mam.
I have learned to not get involved in the political BS. And I have been on this site for a long time.
But I don't think I will ever be able to ignore personal attacks or people who dis the Haynesville Shale. I always think they have a personal agenda, and they usually do.
Does anyone know how much you can buy a good rooster for these days and If anyone has any old dishes for sale I might be interested and I have two wheel barrows and a broke handled hoe for sale.
I think that hoe needs to change pimps! I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. Am I kicked off now 'cause I gotta tell ya, I've been kicked outa better places!!!
I vote for the division.
I'll make this my last comment on this subject and hopefully Keith will come up with a solution that will please most if not all of us. Speaking for me and for me only, it has never been my intention to hi-jack or turn peoples attention away from the Haynesville shale activity or the people involved in it, after all it's not called the Haynesville shale politics or Haynesville shale gardens for a reason. It has been just the opposite, it has been and attempt to bring the people of the Haynesville shale closer as friends and neighbors. First let me start with cookout that KB and I put together, this was done in effort to bring all the people of the GHS together, the Oil & Gas pros, land owners, people who worked in the oilfied and anybody else who wanted come to the cookout, I think two O&G experts showed up Jay and Two dogs, now I'm not much to complain about money, but it did cost me $400 out of my own pocket to put this thing on, and I asked for no money in return. The long lasting frienships I developed that night well off set any money that I spent. We again tried with the bowling tournament, in a effort to bring all the people of the GHS together, everybody was invited, O&G pros, oilfield workers and landowners. If you want to be part of new friendships and meet interesting people who might be able to help you down the line with a problem then come join us, if these events are below your level, then SCREW YOU don't show up. Now, having said that, I don't own damn oilfield company and I don't work for one either, the only agenda I got is bringing people together from all walks of life so we can learn from each other. Now there are some people on here who do own companies , and their only agenda is business and business only, and they could give a damnless about you and your family as long as they got your business. That's good for them, they can pat themselves on the back and go on with their miserable lives.

Politics

I have been on here for almost a year, and I have devoted a great deal of time to politics make no mistake about it. Did I bring politics here. No, it was already here when I arrived, so let's get that straight. In the year that I have been here, there is only one blog I can remember starting, and that was congratulating President Obama and his supporters on their victory. Now, as far as me interjecting politics in a O&G gas blog without somebody having done so first, it hasn't happened. I'll be more than willing to donate $100 dollars to anyones favorite charity it they can forward to Keith a O&G blog that I hi-jacked first. I do however take a great deal of the blame for keeping politics alive and well on the GHS, I have taken it to a personal level, I have got down in the gutter, and I have made nasty remarks. For all of this, all I can do is apologize, I have learn from my mistakes, I now understand the impact and the stress, It caused people on the GHS. I now have put it behind me and moved on and so should you.

Non shale related topics.

I have started a bunch of them, make no mistake about it, just like my most recent one (the describe your life in song blog), if you read the blog, you'll see where I said, I started it because it was a slow
Friday. I didn't know, I was suppose to wait three hours before someone had to post a new comment before I got excited, sorry if I distrupted the flow of one comment per hour. I'm more than willing to abide by the rules set forth by Keith and anybody else. But for those people who want me to feel guilty about it, I don't.
KB,
You know me just like a sister. That was great time.
And yes, I will owe you $1. lol
