Look at the papers you have from when you purchased your property. If you don't have, go to the courthouse for the parish your property is in.
My deed states that it conveys "all rights." Is that sufficient or must the term "mineral rights" be specified?
Minerals are transferred unless they are reserved on your deed or unless they were previously held or sold by a previous owner.

I have property that is held because of drilling that occurred in the 1920's.
"unless"....hmmmmm. Land was purchased 9 years ago. Would a routine title search conducted in conjunction with a land sale identify if mineral rights had been previously sold or were withheld? If not, do I have to research it back to the civil war era to be sure?!!?
Minerals are not run with a residential title search.

First look at Sonris and find out if your property is within a unit of any present or previous wells.
If it is not look back for 10 years to see if anyone reserved the mineral rights.

This will then give you a pretty good assumption that you own the mineral rights.

BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS DOES NOT COMPLETELY ASSURE YOU THAT YOU OWN MINERALS. THERE ARE TOO MANY OTHER ISSUES THAT CAN COME INTO PLAY. WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN EAGLES NEST. DO THEY OWN THEIR MINERALS OR DOES THE STATE?
