Is there a website where I can check on where there are permits to drill? There is a well going up near my property. How do I know if it is in my township and if I will benefit from it if it produces???? Will they send out some notification or will a check just show up one day???

Amy,

If the well is in your unit and your land is under lease and the well is successfully completed you will recieve division orders to be signed. Then in 2 to 4 months you should recieve check. The well could be near your property but it could be in an adjacent unit.

Drilling permits can be found by going to www.sonris.com. When you see sonris lite click on it and look for drilling permits in the subject list. You can search for permits by conservation districts or by parish, etc.
thank you so much for your help!!!
Amy,
Here's how I check on things I am watching....
First I go here: (copy & paste this whole address - the dash in the addy causes problems when just clicking)
http://sonris-www.dnr.state.la.us/sonlite.htm
I use under the Well Information box:
"Permitted Wells By Date" link to watch everyday what new well permits have been signed.
"Wells by Section, Township and Range" link when I don't know the serial number
"Wells by Serial Number" link for a particular well
Under the Pre-Run Reports:
"Shreveport Scout Details" This link is a .pdf that is updated usually every Thursday. It is covering all of NW LA. Broken down in parishes, then fields, then operators and then wells.

If you need to look up a hearing use:
http://dnr.louisiana.gov/cons/CONSEREN/hearings/pubhearings2009.htm

You can look @ the plat for the hearing it will show the "proposed unit" to see whether or not your land is included. Did you get a hearing notice? If you did, they know about you. It is required by DNR that everyone is notified. Now that isn't to say that they don't accidentally on purpose miss people that need to be informed. Do NOT expect just one day for a check to magically appear. Are you leased? If you are leased, depending on how the lease reads they may be the ones responsible to pay your royalty.

On the section, township and range, is it just the township that is important??? or does it need to be in the same section and township for it to benefit me??? Yes, I am in a lease that I signed last October. I did not receive any hearing notice.

Amy,
To benefit from a unit your acreage would have to be included. The section, township and range all work together. Depending on how the lines are drawn on the unit. Let's say you have land/minerals in section 15-township 18 North-Range 12 West then you would be included in the Chesapeake Conger 15 Serial #239947. The lines for the unit were drawn on the section lines of 15. Another way of looking @ this, there can be a well drill next door to you and it be in one section and you in another if your property is on the section line.

Is the permit date or effective date the one you use for calculating the 180 days that the oil co has to pay you your royalty.
