i am very interested in any help I may can get concerning some land in DeSoto Parish called
Gay Island. It is now owned by a Bethard as I've been told, but was purchased by my grandmother in 1912. My uncle always told me that Gay Island belonged to our family, but the court house had burned and he wasn't ever able to provide enough proof. His mother was Roxie Gay and she purchased Gay Island around 1912.
Anyone who might could give me some insight on this, I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Trisha

I would assume that the court house fire destroyed all the original records. However in such cases some conveyances are resurrected so to speak by affidavit or by the filing of duplicate conveyances that were recorded in other legal jurisdictions. It would be a good idea to visit the Clerk of Court's office and ask the staff for some help in this regard.

Do you think even if the Court House burned years ago, that there would still be record of it in the Clerk's Office? When he went over and checked years ago, they told him they didn't have a record due to the fire.

Ms. Giddens. On-line DeSoto Parish conveyance records do not go back to 1912. To determine the answer to your question, someone would have to go to the DeSoto Clerk of Court's record room and do the research in person.
