Ms McCall, the lake leases will be a little harder because of the land title issues involved but it is the same as leasing anything else. The land title will take a little more work to run out and find the mineral owners. I have been leasing under the lake for over 2 years.

Mine should be relatively simple, in as much as I am a single heir to my father's property, and he was a single person owner. I have actually leased some in the past under the lake, however they did not produce and did not release when the lease was up. Am I to assume that eventually that, especially the northern part of Sabine under the lake, will be included in leases for the Shale?

Thomas, Do you know if the same law applies in Arkansas where the landowner retains the mineral rights? My grandfathers property was flooded for the Little Red River in Heber Springs.

Yes, but don't sell something that will be with you forever. Only grant a lease and only lease from around 10,000 to 15,000 feet. You will be in the shale and they will contact you but make sure you are dealing with a straight company and not a crook or speculator. You will be most likely contacted by the crook or speculator first because the wolves will go after the easy pickens first, people that may not know they even have minerals under the lake. Many that I have leased didn't know they owned anything. Marsha, please get a mineral sale out of your mind. Do you have children to pass them onto?

Actually yes, I have one son. My attorney told me the same thing. And, of course, you're both correct. I guess I'm just getting a little frustrated with the "gold rush" fever, but no money coming my way! Ha! I'll stay loose. That land was very important to my father and he would have so enjoyed all of this hype. Thanks!!!!

The only way I would sell is if I was dying of something and didn't have a next of kin that I cared about. Then I would take the money and kill myself spending it.

I would also leave a will giving what I didn't spend to the Good Lord or whoever I thought represented him at the time. With my luck they would find a cure for the illness the day after I died.

You're luck sounds similar to mine......people around me getting rich off shale money and I'm sitting here with stuff that ain't worth nothing. BUt hey, I ain't got an illness; I ain't one of the 55% losing their house; and I eat regular meals and pay regular bills, so that's a good life. Maybe someday my son will get wealthy off mineral rights deep under Toledo Bend!

my mom has mineral rights under the lake (Blue lake on toledo bend) that was left by her father, who does she contact or will they come to her ?
