Dont know if anyone has thought about this but most leases produce water or saltwater with the oil or gas. I dont know how or if shale drilling does the same. If they do they can produce very little or anywhere from 130 barrells ( 1 standard vacuum truck load ) to a few thousand barrells a day ( 20 plus loads ).
I dont know how many or where any Disposal facilities are at in North Louisiana, but many will be needed to dispose of the water. Generally old, none producing wells are converted into disposal wells when they can. I own land in red river parish but now live in south west louisiana and work for Charles Holston Inc ( CHI ) hauling water from leases to disposals. Anyone that owns property with an old well on it may want to consider contacting someone about converting it into a disposal well. There is good money in disposal. Takes 1 to 2 million dollars to convert and put into operation roughly. One of our disposal takes in aprox 65 loads a day. Disposal is capable of making $5000 to $20000 dollars a day, but all this is based on bids put in by the trucking company or disposal owner depending on which applies. Something for everyone to think about when leasing. Some companies put in their own disposal wells on site as well. Hope this will help someone out.

True story. The Monroe Gas Field was in its time (1915 discovery) considered the largest gas field in the world. The City of Monroe created its first city natatorium (swimming pool) out of salt water, using the salt water from the wells. It's long gone now, but it was located approximately where the Forsythe Park is now (for those who are familiar with Monroe).
I know this is days old but theres a huge salt water disposal site off exit 624 I believe in e. Texas and they sure ARE money makers!!
Barnett saltwater truck driver (my son) told me something very similar a night or two ago...about the money to be made if u have the money to install or convert...
