You're welcome, Cliff. Everyone with an ownership interest in LA. minerals should learn the basics of SONRIS Lite. The other key for "do-it-yourself" proponents is learning how the navigate the public records in a parish clerk of court office. The basics are fairly straight forward and easily grasped.

Skip and other participants, Thanks a bunch. Without your guidance (tables, etc) it would have been near impossible for me to navigate the Sonris sight. Now I have a much clearer idea of what is going on around family mineral lease area. My computer has a Ubuntu OP system that does not always work with the interactive maps so this really helped me out.

RAY,
You can do this on sonris, with the "Interactive Maps," which can be found on the left-hand side of the web page under "GIS Access."

Another site, which is a bit easier to use is this:

http://www.geocommunicator.gov/blmMap/Map.jsp?MAP=SM

Just make sure you have the PLSS box on the right-hand side checked.

I friend sent me a note saying that they were having problems, so I started from the beginning.

1. Go to Sonris.com

2. Click on SONRIS Lite below the black heading on the far left that says Database Access.

3. Then you will see a category titled WELL INFORMATION (in blue).

4. The 18th item down will say Wells by Section, Township and Range, Click on it (5th from the bottom of this category).

5. Then follow Skips instructions, or you may want to just look up one well.
For instance, one of my favorite wells, The B&K 37, it is located in Section 37, Township 17 North, Range 13 West. You'll know you have the right well if it's serial number is 238527.

Enter 37 in the Section field
Enter 17N in the Township field
and Enter 13W in the Range field

Hope this helps.
