I think the Hummer will likely be in that speed range although the great failing of all the Tesla competitors currently is range and speed of charging. Lots of catching up to do in those regards. Tesla has a quite large technical lead. I'll look forward to seeing the specs when the Hummer launches. I hope it is competitive and a popular platform.

I had the opportunity to ride in an early Model S many years ago. It was an eye opening experience. Anyone who likes performance, and who doesn't, will like any Tesla model. I understand some will have range anxiety and dislike the premium price but both of those concerns should be history in the next two to three years. I can't wait. I am a late adapter. :-)

Coolness has always sold cars.

my son recently leased a Model 3, and I went down and visited over the MLK weekend. It is a pretty cool car. Very comfortable, and all the controls are on a tablet, mounted offset to the right, more or less between where the speedometer and radio would normally be.

I would suggest the typical Tesla buyer is as interested if not more in their coolness and good looks as much as the fact that they are electric vehicles.

On the subject of subsidies, here is another indication of how their sunsetting is not a hindrance to the popularity and competitiveness of renewables.

Excerpt: A very positive sign is that in 2019, despite all the expansion in Europe and China, Tesla actually managed to increase its sales in North America by a noticeable amount, despite the phase-out of the federal tax credit in the U.S. and the lack of a long queue of orders like…

What is interesting to me is two fold. First, The EIA is conservative in its projections and has had to regularly modify their projections as renewables evolve and come down in price. Second, is this: "In an alternative “low renewables cost” EIA scenario, the crossover would happen in the 2030s. Lower or higher gas prices could also affect the timing."

So either natural gas prices remain depressed (I'm not sure they can go much lower without wholesale bankruptcies) and lead to a projected longer time line, or they go up and the time line shortens.

This headline is shocking, until you add what the EIA actually says.
