No way to know. Depending on the length of the lateral, It can take 3 to 5 weeks drilling time but then the well can be shut-inf until a frack crew is available or longer if the operator wants to postpone production to a later date with the hope of better gas prices.  Once again depending on the lateral length and the number of wells in a completion group, the frack can take one to five weeks.  I've seen a few that reported completion ops over seven weeks.  Once wells are completed they are usually put in production promptly as long as there is a pipeline connection.  From the completion date it can easily be 4 to 5 months before royalty interests are in pay.  So from the initial appearance in the rig report, more like 180 to 240 days.

You're welcome, MD.  I thought you might complain about how long it takes.  LOL!  Actually Louisiana doesn't have a limit on how long operators can go before having to start paying royalties as far as I know.  I do know that after 180 days of production they would owe interest on all the unpaid royalties.

* My count from last week was off.  There were 3 LA rigs listed as "assigned" that were duplicates  of wells that were "drilling" also 1 TX.  There have been some minor changes in the report format since Enverus acquired it from RigData that I missed.  Sorry for any confusion.  Under the current conditions 36 Haynesville directed rigs is still an impressive number compared to other basins.

I have royalties from Comstock and Indigo on property in DeSoto Parrish.  I am just trying to better understand when they are drilling new wells, where those wells are located, and when those wells actually start producing.  I did not have much luck with the SONIS website several of you have mentioned.

MD, the most simple and useful SONRIS search is wells by section-township-range.  Use the link below and save it.  Leave the Section box blank and enter your township and range in the other boxes.  Example, 13N & 14W.  This will show you a list of all the sections in the township.  Wells are listed by their surface location (drill site) so wells producing from your mineral interest may be drilled from an adjoining section.  Look for your section number in the well name.  The well file will show basic data on the well and the operator.  Additional information in reports can be accessed by clicking on the well serial number in blue.  Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions.
