THE GHS HAYNESVILLE SHALE RIG TRACKER. 2023
I'll update each week so we can follow the rig count. I am only counting rigs drilling the Haynesville and Bossier formations. Many industry rig numbers are for the "Haynesville Area", however they may defined that, and includes wells drilling other formations.

Just totally up active rigs
Aethon with 14, Comstock with 8, CHK with 5.
Assuming all are big rigs and not spudders, one can easily assume about $40,000 to $50,000 per day per rig.
$2.7-$3.4 million per day being spent in the combined areas.

And Chesapeake has announced they will be adding two rigs. I don't think any spudder rigs are showing up on the weekly report. At least I have not noticed any. The count would have over 70 on multiple occasions but there are several E TX operators that drill CV wells on occasion. It's not unusual to see one or two rigs each week drilling something other than Haynesville/Bossier.

Nothing is more impressive to an oil field person like me to be able to drive around areas with lots of drilling activity and seeing all the lit-up rigs across the landscape.

I drove I-49 to Lafayette a couple weeks ago and saw a number of Haynesville rigs drilling. Those were just the ones close enough to the Interstate to see as much of that drive through the middle of the fairway is heavily wooded. I'd love to see a night time aerial view that would show all the rigs. It would be a very pleasing site!

In the "old days", driving at night and seeing gas flares at various distances was always a mix of very cool as well as eerie. Especially with any low cloud cover being reflected by the flares.

Interesting that you bring that up because just a few days ago, I was musing about how much money is being spent in this area from drilling the Haynesville. Say each well costs $10 million. Say 65 rigs. How many can they drill in a year? (I don't know... several.) Multiply that times $10 mil. That doesn't count royalties. Or lease bonuses. Or operations.

I'm unsure how much of development related economic impact is localized. That would be an interesting study but a challenge as so much of field ops are performed by contractors headquartered out of state. The main economic impact for NW LA would be royalty income. With this level of drilling, the enhanced production volumes of new version, long lateral wells and crazy high natural gas prices, I feel sure a lot of mineral lessors are seeing some really, really nice checks or deposits in their bank accounts. Those who don't own minerals are simply getting socked with higher energy costs.
