That's good news. They must have an amended well permit that hasn't made it to the database yet.
BLO,
Thanks for fyi. Please keep us GHShalers posted.
Thanks to both of you, I have acreage in Morehouse and W. Carroll( unleased)
interesting. 6'500 seems to shallow for Brown Dense, I don't know though, would have to see a log.
The SWN Play Map shows the Plum Creek location approximately on the LSBD 7,000' contour line. The amended well permit and plat showing the lateral and giving the TVD should be entered in the database soon.
Allen York, Attorney with AR Oil & Gas Commission, said the AOGC has currently designated the following three well as horiz. Exploratory wells in the Smackover unitized over 640ac. Director Larry Bengal confirmed and gave plat showing southern counties, well locations w/oper name, and Smackover contours.
OPER Permit Sec Tws Rng
SNW 45015 15 18s 19w
Cabot 45178 32 19s 17w
Brammer 43526 12 18s 23w
York said final size of future SBD units would evolve with development as was their ( AOGC) method in the Fayetteville Shale. Office computer tech ( James Vernon) said his job discription included helping phone inquriers (501/683-5814) about how to click thru the AOGC data website he helped design.
Scout report on SONRIS(link above) says Dan Hughes Co reached TMD yesterday at 11,000'. Therefore this is a very short lateral of approximately 3300' , with TVD of 7700'.
51 days from spud to TD

Sonris now says this well is a Inactive-Dryhole - Future Utility as of 4-17-2012
Before all of those who thrive off of bad news add there two cents to this post, I will point out that they are not plugging and abandoning this well. Also remember that Devon Energy temporarily abandoned their well in Morehouse and have been leasing more acreage in the meantime. I just wanted to lay that out there for everybody. Think about it, if you were a company with some money to spend and you learned that a play was viable through your own E&P attempt, you may decide to let the first well look bad so you can increase your position before others get involved. If it were me I would want to deter others from getting in my area as I am sure these fellows would to. I could be wrong, but there is probably a reason they are not plugging this well and abandoning it. There is the positive side to this news.
I think they lost their well. It is obvious that drilling in the LS/BD is very hard to do... look at Devons ruined hole. Personally, I think that they still want to try again, with a new hole and maybe some lessons learned.
Besides, it would make a good SWD.
My conjecture is that since they set 4.5" casing to TMD, they are doing one of two things:
1. Shopping the well log to potential JV partners
2. Copying Exxon and simply waiting on someone else to design and employ effectively the best completion for the formation's obviously unique characteristics.
I lean to the latter since Dan A Hughes Co. is a big well funded private company. They have been successful in the Eagleford and other plays, and see a similar prize here, or they would not have drilled a horizontal. They likely intend to produce at maximum potential and are willing to wait for Schlumberger and Halliburton to get experience completing Lower Smackover wells first.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
