On Crowell, last week they were fishing for stuck pipe at 15.933' -now washing and reaming hole 850' shallower in the wellbore. Without knowing details, it is possible that they did not "unstick" the drill pipe and had to back off and leave fish in hole. Or they got the pipe unstuck, drilled to TD, logged the hole and are now getting ready to plug back and start drilling the lateral.

These weekly reports are great, but they do a lot to the imagination (especially in a situation like this one).

Wash & Ream - conditioning the wellbore

I see the Crowell LM30 well #251311 was updated today.  It says w & r @ 15,072’.

Operator may go deeper or shallower than permitted depth. All depends on when they well through target ( assuming base of AC) and then getting 100-150' of rat hole so that the section can be logged and entire section evaluated.

So they only lacked 15 feet getting to the vertical depth that they wanted before getting stuck. Is that correct?  Then it looks like they had only planned to go an additional 57 feet. Am I correct?  Is that unusual?

Jay, thanks - I should have figured that this was still pilot hole part of program / my error. Even more a concern that they are stuck in vertical hole.

David, thanks for the Crowell update. Not encouraging seeing them having to deal with stuck drill pipe only about 1000' below intermediate casing shoe. I figure this puts the wellbore either in the lower part of the curve or at a horizontal position in the AC target zone. Also assuming the operator is using oil based mud to limit such problems.

Hard to say, I'm not very familiar with land owner rights in a BLM minerals unit.  I' m unaware to the "lease holders" you mention so I can't comment.

Comment by Lisa Melder-Johnson on October 19, 2018 at 6:19

Does being in a BLM leased drilling unit hurt private land owners, because they don't have to pay lease money to us.  And are these BLM lease holders in it only for a resale for profit.
