To except some key points, Chesapeake says the HS is 3,000,000 acres. They know where the boundaries are. The shale on average is 220 ft deep. Each square mile has 180 BCF of gas. Current technology says they can recover 52 BCF of gas per square mile. That is 29% of the gas that is there. At $8 per Mcf of gas, they can recover $650,000 per acre. They expect 8 wells per square mile. That is 1 well per 80 acres. That is $52,000,000 of gas recovered per well at current technology and current prices.
Can anyone tell me if there is any drilling activity in the Overton area? I heard a few things about activity in the New London area. I understand that drilling is going to happen in old well locations that were drilled in the 70's to 80's. Please let me know what you know....
Last I heard in Rusk county PetroHawk is offering bonus of $3000 an acre & 25%. There's a smaller company named Encore out of Fort Worth offering $3500 an acre around Mt. Enterprise I've been told.
This is in the embryonic stage however.
I am located about 6 miles west of Mt Enterprise, Tx (Rusk County). Chesapeake (I think) has offered me $250/acre for three years and $150/acre for a 2 year option and 3/16 royalty. This sounds rediculously low. What is the going rate for this area?
Found this article (Oil/gas experts advise: Landowners be smart, cautious). Thought you all might be interested. Article says Haynesville Shale wells produce 10 - 15 times better than typical wells. He says convential drilling is an "educated guess" with a 1 in 20 chance of finding oil. However, "...a resource play, such as Haynesville Shale, involves virtually no risk." Advises to get an Attorney.
Our family has a tract of land just south of the New London area in Rusk County that we have been offered $200/acre and 1/5 royalty for 3 years. I also feel that this is a low offer (as Trainman notes below). We also own a tract of land in Sabine Parish, Louisiana (large Haynesville shale play in La). Be cautious....we were originally approached by a landman offering us $250/acre and 1/5 royalty to lease our land in La. After 5 mos of negotiations and further exploration by these companies, we have now agreed to lease for $12,500/acre and 1/4 royalty.
The going rate in Rusk County has been pretty high (not ever $12,500 high), but with the cutbacks that some of the companies are having to make, I wouldn't be surprised if the days of getting thousands of dollars per acre is over for the forseeable future. Keep that in mind when you get these lower lease offers.
O&G man in TX you may be correct. See Houston Chronicle Article titled "Energy firms likely to trem their spending", Business section page 1D, Wednesday October 8, 2008. This article specifically mentions the Haynesville Shale in East TX and La. The aritcle also mentions Chesapeake, Devon and says they may be curtailing some output, and lowered production growth projections. Chesapeake's CEO "attributes the pullback to concerns about natrual gas prices which have fallen 50 percent since July rather than to the credit crisis."
Therefore, I believe any cutbacks will only be temporary and short lived. I am willing to wait. The money involved is to big.
I am hopefully in the process of acquiring some minerals in eastern Rusk County and was wondering if anyone in the Rusk group has kept up with the number and location of Haynesville wells which might have been drilled. I am particularly interested in any Goodrich Petroleum wells drilled to the Haynesville in western Panola and eastern Rusk. Does anyone have any firsthand knowlege of any Horizontal Haynesville wells which have been drilled if Rusk???
I probably just don't have the know how, but it sure seems easier to keep up with well information in Louisiana than it does in Texas. SONRIS sure makes it easy.
Spring Branch,
I cannot answer your question. However, a starting point for information my be the link below. Good luck!
http://gis2.rrc.state.tx.us/public/
Spring Branch....yes, the Texas RRC is not easy to manuever thru!! I don't know if this will help or not, but go to the home page of the Texas RRC (Railroad Commission). Over on the right side of the screen is a link titled "online research (queries). " Click on it...it will take you to another page where there is a link titled "drilling permit (form W-1) application query." Once you click on this link you can chose the county you are looking for. It will pull up all permits that have been filed dating back to 1977, the name of the lease, the name of the operator, the type of drilling (horizontal, vertical, new drill ), and the depth etc. I see that Goodrich has recently filed for drilling permits in Panola. Hopefully, this helps.
Shannon M and Trainman, thank you both for your helpful advice. If there is anything I csan do for you over on the Louisiana side of the play, please let me know.
Good read from Cabot on the thickness of the Haynesville/Bossier in the Rusk county area (750' to 1000'). They're lumping the Bossier zones and the H.S. together...Interesting
