Brooks Petroleum applied for a permit to reenter the Starcke #2 1 mile NE of Mcleod. To be drilled to 13000'. CV @ 10128', Smackover @ 10834 & wildcat to 13000' .
Keep in mind that the vertical wells may be tests to determine if horizontal wells will pay out. The horizontals are very expensive; a vertical well can gather data about the producing zone(s) it penetrates and the geologists and engineers can predict what a horizontal will do without spending the $$. From this data they can decide to lease more land or shift their interest somewhere else. In some cases, horizontal lateral can be drilled from a vertical cased hole at a later date.
The horizontal 'revolution' is already here. There are horizontals being drilled in the Carthage Cotton Valley field next to 20 year old wells producing from the same zone(s).
In my opinion, demand and prices will have to go up before increased drilling activity returns. Gas at less than $5 won't encourage producers to drill exploratory wells. We will have to wait and see if this administation and the changes in the economy cause gas demand to increase or decrease.
Hey guys and gals, Joe Dyer here wanted to let you know that a portion of our pipeline grid is ready for transporting. Hall#9 is ready so it should be ready any day now. I live closest to it so i'll let yoou know the #'s on it if they open it up. I'm off this week so I'll be at most of the sites often. Joe Dyer.P.S. I need more freinds and/or members,Thanks.
Horizontal drilling has probably been employed for at least a hundred years, and probably much longer. I have been involved in making geologic investigations to select locations suited for horizontal drilling. My experience was in the water well industry. Horizontal wells are fairly common in Arizona. In the cases I mention the wells are drilled 100% horizontal eliminating vertical components.
There is a patented system for drilling water wells with both vertical and horizontal components. I believe this system has probably been around for more than 50 years. It is called the Rainey Well System, I think. The only one I ever saw was one drilled by International Paper Company near Springhill, La. It is a huge well and it is assume to look into the well. I don't remember details as I saw the well in the 1940"s.
Perhaps some of you may have read my post about the Sentell field between Benton and Bossier City. Souther Star is now evaluating this field for Haynesville Shale and Cotton Valley sand. We (I am a stockholder) have successfully completed about 10 wells in what was once considered a depleted field. Many similar fields will be revived by developing technology.
First of all I would like to welcome all new members, More the merrier. The only info I have at his point is Matadors Hall#5 which is just north of #9 on HWY 1 North. Their is activity going on with equipment I have never seen before, which is rare. all the equipment is brand new. so they are on to something, trust me I'll find out! Will let you Know, Thanks again Joe Dyer
I just left Halll#5. (Snuck In). The peice of equipment they were having trouble with is leaking gas pretty bad at top of well head. They have pressure cut off. They have a flare there and a frac tank sitting by. The pipeline that is there at site is not hooked up yet. I know they were having trouble fracing because of the porosity of soil. I'm sure they will get that resolved. Hall#9-1 is set at450mcf a day and pressure turned down to 1500lbs. But everything sounds good at the site.(Snuck in there to)Will find out more and letyou know. Joe Dyer
Thanks for your update, Joe. Even though I don't know you personally it seems to me that we share some common traits. We will do what we have to to get information. Are you a country guy? I grew up in Shongaloo, so you know I am country to the bones. Keep up the good work!
Mr. Sanders, Yes I grew up in the country with cows and horses, etc. But after working in the oilfield, vegetation control on over 1000 gas wells a season for 16 years, football, baseball, raceing motorcycles, and plenty of broken bones, at the age of 42,I decided to go into the medical field where I work in surgery in the O.R.. I am now working to become an R.N.,
but I just can't make myself stay out of the oilfield,I guess it's in my blood. I love it! Joe
Tom - Thanks for the invite for this group. Any activity near the La/Tex border in Cass County. I have seen some near McCleod. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!
BossierTex, please share with me what you know about activity around McLoad. I may be able to get some info about the Tex-La border in the near future, but it will be about 12 miles south.... but it's a start. Thanks, Tom
Tom - Check out the Texas Railroad Commission website and look for online queries and scroll to Cass County. There have been about 10 permits issued in the McCleod area over the past year. Not quite to my neck of the woods, but getting closer!
I have several very old leases that the company never drilled on to my knowledge. I have 200 acres located in the John Bourland Survey, Abst.69, Cass County, Texas. Is ther any way some one could help me find out if these three leases are still mine. My mother and brother are deceased and I inheited their shares of the property. They were recordedin Vol. C-8, page164 of the Deed Records of Cass County, Texas. Any help would be appreciated. Frances Bain McCawley
Contacted just before Christmas 2010 by landman wanting to lease the Old Kelly Bayou Field in T20S R27W Sec 5 Miller County. Stated that they are looking for Smackover and will exclude the Haynesville Shale. I did not consider the terms acceptable. Also stated that they would be drilling "a lot" of wells...
