I heard Encana has contractors working back at the pad they started early this year off FM1277. I drove by this morning & talked with some of the guys. They are definately working full force on the pad. Lines of lime trucks, bulldozers working, all in plain site of the road. The location is exactly one mile north of the FM1277/ FM1196 intersection. Exactly one mile from our property! I listened to Encana's 3rd qu investor's presentation Friday. They have 750M budgeted for Haynesville in 2010. Hopefully, at least 50% of that will be for wells...
Lot of positive talk about San Augustine and it has been proven for the Northern part of the county. What does anyone think about the Central and Southern part of the County? Someone take a stab.
San Augustine County 12-20-09
Southwestern Energy completed three wells in the Angie Field. The Timberstar-Hopkins GU 3 Well No. 1H and the Timberstar-Hopkins GU Well No. 2H are 4.4 miles southeast of Aiken. The No. 1H hit 13,070 feet and potentialed 9.590 million cubic feet of gas on a 34/64-inch choke. The No. 2H hit 13,000 feet and potentialed 9.912 million cubic feet of gas on a 38/64-inch choke. The ADJ Minerals Well No. 2H hit 13,862 feet 4.1 miles northeast of Attoyac. On a 40/64-inch choke the well potentialed 5.810 million cubic feet of gas. Production is in the James Lime.
I noticed on a Crimson "East Texas Resource Play" map (can't remember where I saw the map) where they showed a Exxon #1 Sutton, Marathon #1 Stokes and a Shell #1 Jones. They labeled these wells "Legacy Haynesville Control" wells. They are located in mid SA County pretty close to the Sabine County line. What might they be planning for these wells? What does that mean?
I saw that map on their "Pritchard Capital 2010 Energize Conference" 1/6/2010 presentation. It seemed they used those wells as a guide to define the area of haynesville shale in East Texas. It also showed 4 rigs in San Augustine and 3 in North Western Sabine county as being on their 2010 drilling program. They also had a blob map showing estimated ip's that looked very nice for the same area of 10 mmcf or more. I don't think they plan on anything for those older wells, just those 7 above. I hope they are dead on as well.
Work has started clearing a well site on the south side of 21 5 miles west of San Augustine near Thomas Cemetery Rd.
Also just past that clearing has started for the pipeline gathering system !!!!!!!
East and most likely headed south east towards the salt water disposal well that has been permitted following 21. Still, that is somewhat informed speculation. As fast as they have to move to keep up with their schedule it cannot be much longer before we know for sure.
You may be right Doug. I was just guessing. Encana may be workinig a little farther South from this pad. Anyway it is good to see a lot of activity in SA. I hope the entire county is included in the play.
Just had to post for those of us in the South: Gotta think positive......
Haynesville Shale Play At 12,000 Feet Plus
Several large independents and a major company are drilling now and have in the past in the southern part of Texas and Louisiana at depths of 12,000 feet deep or greater. The reserves should be 10 BCF/well or more at these depths where the thickness is present that is is required. The southern part of this play in Texas and Louisiana will probably produce 30-40 percent more gas than the northern part of the play at the shallower depths. There will be more 1,500 - 2,000 HP rigs needed in the near future for all of the companies to ramp up for full development for this great play.

Chesapeake Energy Divestment of Northwestern Haynesville Shale Leasehold
This divestment plan of this northwestern part of Texas should explain as to where this independent is focusing on development of the Haynesville Shale more and more as time goes on.It appears they like the deeper part of this play more. Some think the divestment is because they can't drill fast enough to develop what they leased as a whole. This is not so. They just don't think it makes economic sense to develop this leasehold position that they are divesting of. They probably have figured out that they don't have enough Shale Thickness, BHP, Perm, Porosity, TOC, Fractures, etc. in this area as to this leasehold area of their divestment plan. Also, the numbers that have been reported to date on production in this divestment area are not as good as the deeper part of this play that is in a southern direction of this area.Shelby, San Augustine, Nacogdoches Counties of Texas.

Jwc,
My concern with Chesapeake is their very bad reputation with the way they treat people. This may not be just indicative of Chesapeake, but I think they hold first place.
The timber has all been cleared off the new well site on 21 west of San Augustine on the south side of the highway.
Also there has been clearing done for the pipeline gathering system south of 21.
Today the fracturing crew was onsite at the Skillern well on 21 east.
Also TK Stanley trucks were starting to move the rig in at the Sublett well on 21 east.
We had a wrecker call for a Tetra service truck off County Rd 1184 north of Fountain Town and my driver saw 3 or 4 wells with fracturing crews on site up there.
So there is lots going on now !!!!
Reporting haynesville news from the pineywoods of East Texas this has been.

News today about still another well site on 21 west just past Saunders Cemetery on north side of 21.
A friend had to go move his deer stands and hog trap. as they are putting a well pad soon.
Saw new ribbons at the gate today .
Doug, I need a champeen scout to check out something for me... there has been some bulldozer work on the north side of Hwy 103 just west of 96. Looks like 4-5 acres, all the trees/stumps pushed off... nothing else yet.
Can you look and see if you think it's another pad?
jffree1, wouldn't that location be on the other side of the Hwy of the Marathon Stokes 1 that was drilled and re-completed in 1997-98? That well was permitted to 18k feet and looks like it ended up being @ 14370 feet. Is there any way that could be a HS well? At the the top of the completion information it says "High Cost Tight Sands" and I don't believe I've seen that before. What interval did/is that producing from? It says cotton valley B lime? Do we know the TVD? TIA
om28v, I was just looking at the reports on the Stokes 1. It went to the HA Lime but they didn't try to produce it and no test on record. It was eventually sidetracked from a James Lime horizontal that was unsuccessful. It did produce from the Cotton Valley "B" Lime in a horizontal completion.
And, yes, this would be very near that well. The stokes was just a little further west, I believe, on the south side of 103.
It looks like the TVD on the final completion was 12,430'. The Bossier was noted at 13,280' and the CV Lime at 13,950'.
The producing interval was 12,387' to 12,430' TVD.
Did you notice that the Stokes Blackstone SBK was submited for re-enter on 12/10/09 ( just West of all of this a touch ) now Pine Grove SWD by Longbranch Energy,LP ? Maybe something happening in these parts. 6100 ft, oil?
ALongview, yes, formation tops.
om28v, I did look at it and then forgot all about it. But, I never connected it with the Stokes 1. Seems like there was some discussion when it was permitted because of the target formation which is considerably deeper than 5800' but would be about right for maybe the Saratoga. JMO, but something is odd about this permit.
Someone left me a note last night about the location I asked about. Rumor is that it will be a SWD well which makes sense considering that the one across the road was never approved.
Also, there is a LOT of PVC pipe stacked in a yard behind the Shell station at the 147/103 intersection.
Drove east down 103 and your right jffree1 there is a big pad being built just west of 96. We also took a drive by the Blackstone well and the rig is still up.
East Texas -- Haynesville Shale and Mid-Bossier Shale
During the fourth quarter of 2009, Crimson announced the successful completion of the company's first well in East Texas; the Kardell #1H which recorded the highest 24-hour gas rate reported to date in the entire Haynesville Shale play (30.7 Mcfe per day). Since that time the well has produced almost 1 Bcf of natural gas in the first 90 days of production. The Kardell well brought significant attention to San Augustine County as a potential new "Core Area" of the play. We have recently executed a one-year rig contract for our planned drilling activity in East Texas. The first of five planned operated wells during 2010 is expected to spud in early March. Crimson has approximately 12,000 net acres in San Augustine and Sabine counties that it considers highly prospective in the Haynesville Shale, Mid-Bossier Shale and James Lime formations.
