Austin Chalk

All things about Austin Chalk in Louisiana: Horizontal drilling, improved seismic testing, and liner casing are offering hope for the deep minerals in the Austin Chalk which runs from Austin, Texas through parts of Louisiana to Biloxi Mississippi.

Hi there. I seem to be having technical issues posting comment at this time. If anyone in this group would like to give me a call my number is (985)687-6308. I would to hear from you! Thanks, Ilona.

Is East Feliciana considered to be in the Austin Chalk and if so is  there any

activity or interest in the area for this?

We have two pieces of property in the Slagle area, Vernon Parish. On the first piece (40 acres) a rep from a company contacted parents by mistake and left message to call if interested. They made contact again on the second piece (25 acres) two weeks ago, different person but same company. They made a tentative offer of 125.00 an acre with 1/5 royalties. This offer was only for the second piece and stated the first piece was in a different area handled by a another rep. Came back and made a lower offer of 100.00 an acre with same royalties. We have not leased. Would like to hear more about the drilling in Vernon. Was it not successful?

Anyone think we will have renewed interest in Rapides, Lecompte-Forest Hill area like 1995-96 ? Any comments welcome. Thanks Charles

It is good to see Swift Energy take some interest is the area to the south, but I don't see the small mineral owners getting much benefit from it until the elite Washington idiots include Natural Gas and oil produced domestically into a real energy program.  We need to be telling Opec that we are going to produce our own energy at a price far less than they are charging us.  Old Donald Trump had the right idea.  Our message to Washington should be, "Washington  get out of my way, or I will drill you right into the ground"

Forty members?  That's it?  Come on guys we need to get this group up to 100.  Please pass the word.  More participation will bring more information of value to all.
  • DJG

Wondering if it might be beneficial to have this group cover Austin Chalk in general, and not just AC in Louisiana.   The trend arches all the way from Central Texas Eastward.    Might help to get the membership up on the group and certainly there is much information on the Chalk out of Texas that could prove helpful to those who are in the continuation of the trend into Louisiana.

That sound reasonable to me DIG.  Go for it.  The group title and logo certainly support a Texas/LA. trend.

What about Pointe Coupee Parish.  We have a feeler from Anadarko regarding Lacour Field (or at least it is an undefined field with a Pennington Well on it on Lacour property).  No mention of unit size yet.  Since first conversation lease money went from $150 for three years to $175 plus options for two more years at $75 per year with a royality of 20%.  Now they have added a royality of 25% for below the Austin Chalk (which would be the Tuscaloosa Trend).

We have not signed up yet but probably will do so.  The place has been leased on and off for more than 60 years.  This is the most activity in about 15 years or so,

Once had about four acres in production and did well, then the well sanded over and stop producing.  Now the well is capped and closed off.

Do we know there are minerals down there.  Just waiting for price and technology to get to it.

    SEISMIC ACTIVITY IS FINALLY HAPPENING!

After signing a permit for siesmic testing (with Green Bear) several monthes ago all I did was sit back and wait. Well, it looks like the wait is over. Someone came out today to get started.  The company name on the side of his truck said "HELIX".

He could not find the flags that designated where was to start drilling holes so he said he would be back this afternoon. He said that after he completes this task someone would be out in approx.

3 weeks to start blasting. Looks like Joe was right(as usual) when he

said that this area was heating up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOV. JINDAL AND CHENIERE ENERGY CEO CHARIF SOUKI ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $6 BILLION NATURAL GAS FACILITY IN LOUISIANA

Project to create 148 new direct jobs, link to Haynesville Shale play

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Today, Gov. Bobby Jindal joined Cheniere Energy Chairman and CEO Charif Souki to announce that one of the first natural gas liquefaction facilities in North America will be constructed at Cheniere's Sabine Pass terminal in Cameron Parish. Cheniere's anticipated investment of $6.5 billion will expand its Sabine Pass facilities with one of the largest capital investments in Louisiana history.

The new project anticipates the creation of 148 new jobs and the retention of 77 existing jobs, with a total compensation and benefits package that will exceed an annual average of $100,000. The new jobs would support another 589 indirect jobs in the area, and 3,000 construction jobs are projected at the peak of construction activity. The new Cheniere facility is planned at the Louisiana-Texas border in Cameron Parish to handle the shipment of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, from the company's international LNG terminal.

Gov. Jindal said, "Cheniere Energy's construction of one of the country's first liquefaction facilities at the Sabine Pass terminal in Cameron Parish is a huge win for our state. This multibillion-dollar investment will be one of the largest capital investments in the history of Louisiana and will build on our incredible record of job creation projects all across the state. Cheniere's facility will grow our economy, increase natural gas production and become a major exchange in continuing to meet the demand for energy around the world."

Cheniere is expected to utilize the Quality Jobs and Louisiana FastStartTM programs, as well as the Industrial Tax Exemption Program, to support the expansion project.

"The construction of Cheniere's liquefaction project in Cameron Parish will provide key support to Louisiana's economy and natural gas industry, which has been transformed by the development of the Haynesville Shale," said Souki, the Cheniere Energy chairman and CEO. "In only two years, Louisiana's natural gas production has doubled as the Haynesville has grown into one of the most prolific shale plays in the world. Our liquefaction project will provide thousands of jobs in Southwest Louisiana while connecting the state's natural gas industry to global markets, making Louisiana the world's first dual importer and supplier of LNG. We greatly appreciate the support that Cheniere has received from the State of Louisiana and the people of Cameron Parish, who have demonstrated a strong commitment to our Sabine Pass LNG terminal."

Cheniere Energy anticipates construction will begin in early 2012, with hiring of the new permanent jobs beginning in 2014. The company will commence operations at the liquefaction facility in 2015, and the second phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018. Adding liquefaction capabilities will transform the Sabine Pass terminal into a bi-directional facility capable of exporting LNG in addition to receiving LNG for regasification.

Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret said, "This project is a terrific example of the tremendous secondary economic benefits associated with the Haynesville Shale and other unconventional natural gas plays in our country. We expect to see even more massive capital investment projects associated with the Haynesville Shale announced in Louisiana over the next few years. The economic benefits of historically low, stable natural gas prices in Louisiana have only begun to be realized."

Does anyone know who is leasing under the name Basin in Pointe Coupee Parish?  Is this both AC and TMS potential?
  • Craig Wascom

I would love to see an answer to litteasy's question?
  • Skip Peel - Mineral Consultant

Then we need the full name as there are three companies registered with the state that lease or purchase minerals all with the word, Basin, in the name.

    Basin Properties in Lafayette

  • littleasy

Yes, BASIN PROPERTIES, INC. (Lafayette, LA).  Leasing "for" Anadarko is the thought.
