Brandon. I'd like to help you but I need specific facts. Did you (or your family) sign a lease or just receive an offer to lease? Did you receive a check? Or a draft? Big difference. It sounds as if you received a partial payment. That sounds like a top lease which is a lease that becomes effective when an existing lease expires. These are complicated issues and I can not help you if I do not have the factual details. Skip.
