Just recently my newest buddy, or the master of this sight Haynesville, asked if I would be interested in writing a blog. Haynesville never forgetting any of the small details reminded me of the fact that my farther (who was journalist and cartoonist) may have passed this gene on to me. Of course people on this site have come to terms with the fact that this did not happen. It's not because my farther didn't try, he did. Dad would always gently pop me on the back of the head, ok, ok, he would…

I have mineral rights in DeSoto Parish in Sections 32 and 33,
13N, 15W.
I was offered a $500 bonus for each acre and 25% royalty.
Is this considered a good offer?

Awhile back, someone started a discussion regarding the direction Waxman would take Congressional energy policy. Those questions may have been answered with the appointment of Rep. Markey (D-MA) to chair the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on energy and the environment.

I have a freind that has some land in Stonewall, They want to run a pipeline thru here property. Does anyone know how many feet from the pipeline, "if she wanted to move a trailer on there to live", would she have to be away from the pipeline. How wide would the pipeline be?

Despite your fondness of this co. It would seem they would learn from the best. Keep drilling vert and hold the leases then get bought or save a few shillings and do a horizontal well. Why wouldn't they do a stock or cash transaction--- they don't owe wells fargo till 2010 sometime--a lot can happen in a year

Why should I lease my land and get 25% royalty rather than collect 100% royalty? I know you have to wait longer to start collecting royalties but in the long run I should get much more for my land than the lease bonus.

"...Mr. Pickens has his opponents, including FedEx CEO Fred Smith, who favors electrification of the transporation fleet. Mr. Smith argues that hybrids are the way to go, and is putting his money where his mouth is. With 80,000 motorized vehicles, FedEx now boasts the largest fleet of commercial hybrid trucks in North America.
Without naming Mr. Pickens, the company’s director of sustainability, Mitch Jackson, upped the ante on Sunday with a blog item blasting natural gas as…

I'm sure those of us connected to the NG Industry won't mind the arctic blast heading our way. This was bound to happen...stay warm up there...and turn that heat up (that sounds bad doesn't it?).
"Bitterly cold air bottled up over the depths of the Arctic will plunge southward next week, gripping the eastern two-thirds of the nation. The frigid air will likely arrive in two waves. The first shot will blast the Midwest and Northeast early next week. The second, which will prove to be…

It's been an interesting year (2008) for oil and natural gas markets. As of December 22, crude prices have fallen sharply in recent days and several traders were squaring positions ahead of the holiday break. Oil prices tumbled below $40 a barrel Monday as business news indicated a worsening global economic climate and serious deterioration in energy demand. Light, sweet crude for February delivery fell $2.45, or nearly 6 percent, to settle at $39.91 a barrel on the New York Mercantile…

I think this went pretty well. Regardless as to whether you agreed with Dr. Fleming on every answer, many kudos to him for showing up to chat with us. Most politicians would run to the hills instead of taking this off the script risk. Below is the script, an edited version, of the live chat. I will post the chat we had with Gerard Bowen later today.

I have family with 150+ acres in the Huxley Bay area; some family has already leased with Chesapeake around the 1st of the year. Anybody out there know if there are any active players that are still in the lease hunt? I know Devon had been active in the area, through St. Marys, but, have not heard of any action recently. Thanks to all for any input.

A well site has been built and derrick is being assembled on it. According to published info in the times the site is in the same S,T,R as my land. [S5,T21,R7] How do I find out if this well site is within the same production unit as my leased land? I have found that the production units sometimes split townships or otherwise don't always follow township boundary lines. I talked to some of the people at site and they could only tell me the landowner's name, which I already knew. (a deceased…

THE FOLLOWING RANKING AND NET ACREAGE POSITIONS ARE TAKEN FROM PUBLIC INFORMATION AVAILABLE ONLINE. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT CURRENT TOTALS AS MANY OF THE REPORTS ARE SEVERAL MONTHS OLD. ACREAGE POSITIONS HAVE BEEN ROUNDED UP TO THE NEAREST 1,000. THE LIST IS NOT PRESENTED AS A COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS AS I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE TOTALS FOR SOME OPERATING COMPANIES. OF SIGNIFICANT NOTE, I HAVE FOUND NO ACREAGE TOTAL FOR SHELL WESTERN E&P, INC. (SWEPI). IT IS UNCLEAR IF SWEPI'S ACRES ARE INCLUDED…
