For the past 4 years I have received a notice from a mineral company that I have unpaid royalty money that was supposed to be paid to me in 2021. I respond to these notices giving the info requested only to have the company state the royalty was for 2022 which is a lie and I can prove it. I am extremely tired of being the butt of this scam and am thinking about suing. However, I need to know the dollar amount...the mineral company refuses to tell me. My question is where, if anywhere, can I go to find the dollar amount for these 3 months of royalty.
Any help will surely be appreciated.

Judy, without royalty statements it would be extremely difficult to determine how much royalty income you should have received. You could come close if you have a co-owner in the minerals who has the same lease terms and has received royalty payments and kept those records or has an EnergyLink account that includes the operator in question. The more important question may be the reason for withholding royalty payments. Have you received an explanation of why payment has been withheld? O&G companies are notorious for ignoring mineral owner complaints and more often than not you have to get a recognized O&G attorney involved to get any information. You should be able to get a no cost initial meeting with an experienced O&G attorney to get some feedback on your issue and some idea of cost to take legal action. The estimated amount of non-payment could also work into decisions of what to do. If it is a moderate amount of money, the options may be limited. If you would care to discuss the specifics of your situation with an experience O&G attorney, I can refer you to my O&G attorneys.
The reason is that through my ignorance Chesapeake (Aubrey McClendon) stole half of my royalties in DeSoto Parish and I did go to a lawyer at that time and found out that when the theft goes on for some years (and I don't remember how many) the thief faces no repercussions. Actually it was the mineral company I sold my mineral rights who discovered it. And, no I don't think it is a lot of money...I have in my mind around $3,000 and no reason for thinking that. The "reason" they give is that this money is for 2022 production. I don't believe I can be registered as the recipient for 2022 royalty when I sold the mineral rights in 2021, a full year later.
Anyway, thank you for your reply. I sort of expected this to be the case. My problem is I was so upset (and that is putting it mildly) that I let Chesapeake scam me and I just get that upset again when I get the letter telling me I have unpaid royalty..
Thanks, again.....
Judy
You're welcome, Judy. GHS.com is a good place to vent and we understand your frustration. I keep a running draft of all the actions that the O&G companies have taken to boost their bottom lines at the expense of the Haynesville Shale mineral owners - and the state. The media doesn't cover it and many mineral owners are unaware of all the underhanded actions associated with the Haynesville Shale. You can be sure the same things are happening to mineral owners across the US.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
