EnCana Completes 1st Haynesville Shale Well in Redoak Lake Field (7/15/10)

EnCana has completed the first Haynesville Shale well in the Redoak Lake Field and it is also the first well in T11-R9W.

Please note this is the first Haynesville Shale well to be tested with a flowing pressure above 10,000 psi. This indicates the well was likely capable of a rate near 30 MMcfd if produced on a more typical choke size. This is excellent news and pushes the play boundary to the southeast.

EnCana, John Mondello 29 #H1 Well, Serial #240253, S29-T11N-R9W, Red River Parish, 13292 Mcfd, 16/64" Choke, 10007 psi Flowing Pressure

Thanks for that assesment! Now I am going to ask a questions that's going to demonstrate my lack of shale knowledge. What is the Bossier Shale? Is Bossier shale similar to to he Haynesville shale or are they different names for the same resource? Second question: if this shale is such a valuable resource it seems as though companies would be actively testing. These are my last questions.
You have to learn by asking or reading older treads. I guess that asking is quicker but if you will go back and read some older threads you will get an education in the shale.

In places the Bossier sits on top of the Haynesville and I would think in some places could produce more than the Haynesville below it. As the companies drill down to the Haynesville they will test the Bossier and if it looks good will come back and drill a second well into it.
Bill, as TD said the Bossier Shale is a separate formation immediately above the Haynesville Shale. There are portions of the southern area in Louisiana and Texas where both formations will be commercially productive.

Companies have 185 drilling rigs operating in the Haynesville/Bossier Shale so are developing the play at a very rapid pace. In two years the production has increased from almost nothing to over 2.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day. This is quicker than any other natural gas play in the US.
Thanks, folks, for the valuable insights! it appears I have some important home to get done! :)
Me too, Les B. I'm ready to see results also.
