Trinidad Drilling Rig 125 reported 8 days Drilling Ahead, 10/10.

The rig spud the #2 well on 10/24.  Since we now have Trinidad 125 drilling two well sequentially I have changed the discussion title to include both wells, #1 & #2.

Trinidad Drilling Rig 125 reported 11 days Drilling Ahead on the #2, 10/24.

Hi Skip!  What does the phrase "reported 8 day Drilling Ahead" mean?  Also, I thought #2 spud on 9/30 and #1 on 10/2 or 3.

"Drilling Ahead" basically translates as normal operations.  It's most often actual drilling but can include tripping pipe (bringing the bit up out of the hole for any number of reasons), conditioning the bore hole, running casing, cementing casing, logging, coring, etc.  The 8 days is the number of days since spud (the day the bit hits the dirt).  There will be relatively minor discrepancies in weekly reports owing to different drillers (persons) making the report for a particular rig and especially in these cases where the rig is sliding back and forth between two wells being drilled at the same time.  I learned long ago to ignore these kinds of discrepancies because 99% are of no consequence.  The value of the rig report is largely knowing when a rig has begun drilling and when it is finished drilling because state databases are not designed to report drilling activity on a timely basis.  Quite often a rig spuds a well, drills it and is gone before the spud report ever shows up on a state database.  I could fill up pages here listing the un-drilled well permits but they are of little import until a rig spuds and they become a well instead of a piece of paper.
