From the Midwest to those in the Claiborne Parish area!!!

I no longer live in Louisiana but continue to stay in touch with friends, family, etc. as best I can.

My question is simply this: Do you believe the HS will really reach Claiborne and if so, to what degree?

Serious responses will be very much appreciated. Geaux Tigers!

There is an awful lot of activity to the east of Claiborne so I would not be surprised at the end of the day that it went several parishes east of Claiborne but we don't have the hard facts yet. The Terryville field has een a substantial amout of testing here of late but I am quite sure our "pro's" will attempt to shoot this down as well.
ShaleGeo and Snake,
I know Shale Geo can check this out but I feel sure that some of the production in Terryville is from the Bossier. I know that HK referred to some of the Comstock completions as "Bossier only". That was published in some of their releases which are on this website. But all of these wells are called CV wells.
Thanks for the replies, I guess all we can do is pray and wait. Have a great one....
I can't say who or what company he was with but I was told a couple of days ago that the HAShale goes through all of Claiborne and into the southernmost part of Arkansas. This was from someone who is in the oil and gas industry and has access to that information.

Once the seismic testing is completed in Claiborne we'll know more.
Gray Sands,
One of my concerns at this time is the fact that so many people are taking the first offer that comes their way in Claiborne. This will keep the price per acre down. They should hold out for more. If not, I promise you this time next year they'll be wishing they had!!!!
By the way, I like your photo of the Claiborne Parish Courthouse. Nice!
How was the Haynesville Shale named? Was the Haynesville Shale discovered in the Haynesville oil fields or area, and named a geological formation many years ago? You would think the name would come from the geographical area where it was first discovered. If anyone knows the orign please enlighten me.
I found this information on the DNR website about the Haynesville Shale.

Town of Haynesville located in Claiborne Parish
By Dr. M. B. Kumar

The Haynesville Formation (Sand, Shale or Zone) was named after the town of Haynesville in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. In the Haynesville Field close to this town, geologists identified the Haynesville Formation some sixty years ago as a rock formation formed during a specific time interval (Upper Jurassic) of the geologic past. The nomenclature of the Haynesville Formation is similar to that of Austin Chalk, Tuscaloosa Formation and Smackover Formation recognized to exist at varying depths in Louisiana which were studied and recognized initially in the area of Austin in Texas, Tuscaloosa in Alabama and Smackover in Arkansas, respectively. In light of available information, geologists believe that the Haynesville Formation varies in rock characteristics from area to area. In the Haynesville Field area, it has primarily sandstones (including reservoirs productive of oil and gas). However, the Haynesville Formation (Sand) grades into shale to the south and southwest of the town of Haynesville. In the area encompassing southern Caddo Parish as well as DeSoto and other adjoining Parishes, the Haynesville Formation dominantly consists of shale and is referred to as Haynesville Shale (Haynesville Zone). This is part of the speculated (potentially productive) area of the Haynesville Shale Play, which is currently experiencing a significant increase in natural gas exploration activities.
Thanks Perry
Your Welcome
KSLA Channel 12 News web site has two or three Hay Shale wells being drilled in Columbia County - check it out.
Thanks for your input Gray Sands. I agree and maybe one day soon we will hear of better offers for our area.
