Does anyone know what the going rate per acre is for letting a company do a seismic survey of your property? Any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way, and this is important....the contract that CGG Veritas gave me was open ended as to time of termination. I made them include an 18 month expiration time. Without that they can conduct all kinds of seismic activity for kingdom come, and never have to give you another contract.

What kind of damages are we talking about for a seismic survey? And good point Ray on closing the loop hole on the time limit, thanks.
Around the holes it will be clay cuttings and or gravel. Getting in and out the buggys may leave deep ruts and if the holes are positioned up in pine thickets there may be some timber damage. They do try to do it in away that they do the least amout of damage.

Donna, Someone from CGG veritas contacted us recently and offered $15 per acre + repair or pay for any damages caused by the seismic survey. Our property is in S21-T9N-R12W. Have they made an offer to you yet? I plan to check with landowners near me to see if they have been contacted also

If you know of anyone who gets $25/acre out of CGG Veritas, can you tell us. Many people got $15/acre from them, but we all were given favorite nation clauses. So, I am trying hard to find one person who got more than $15 from them.

I am located in Sec 8 & 17 of 10N 11W, about 1/2 mile of the Sabine parish line. Last year I received the 15/acre plus an up front of about 10/acre of pre-determined amount of damage. Just another way around the favored nations clause. I was approached last week by CGG again to do this process again with Sabine parish. They said they need to overlap with Desoto and they are paying me the same thing again for a second Seismic survey. This sounds a bit odd to me. They had said that they need to shoot from about a mile inside of DeSoto to get a good reading.
Dixie, yes. It was $15 an acre. I asked them about a time limit. I was told that they get permits from the state of La. which are for 2 years at a time. Since it was already the end of Feb., 2 months into the permit, there was 22 months left. I also asked about damages. I Was told they could pay damages at the end. We are in S12-T9N-R12W.
The last seismic survey conducted on my property was back in the '70's, and I was never contacted by the company. Discovered several "shot holes" on property, along with "buggy damage," which was significant, or would never have known they were on the place. CGG acts like they are wanting to do this right; called, sent aerial photo, etc. Question: 1) What is the going rate, or fair rate, for each hole shot? 2) Everything I've seen and read indicates this is a situation where damages are paid up front...what if the payment doesn't cover the actual damages? Want to cooperate and work with people, but don't want to leave myself open to excessive damage not covered by the original agreement. Thanks for any helpful advice anyone might provide.

The permit that Veritas offers is very basic. I suggest you create an addendum to the permit. First, put a termination date in the addendum. Their permit is open ended. You should put in some expiration date for the permit. My experience with them was that they are very open to working with you. In my case, they asked for 18 months. You may also put in more language about damages to the land. I recommend that you be specific -- don't write something that you cannot enforce. So, if you want to add language to protect your land, spell out what you expect of them AND the penalties for non compliance. For example, if you have to hire an attorney to help you collect damages, spell out that they will also pay all attorney fees. If you have gates that must be closed, spell that out, as well as penalties. You can also ask that they provide notification to you of when they'll be on your land, so you can be there to watch. (I had this in my addendum, but I never got notified. So, again, put a penalty in the clause for failure to notify.) Finally, if there is something in particular that you are worried about (a stream, a road, or whatever), take photos before they start. Photos are cheap.
