We recieved a letter today from Seitel data, Ltd requesting permision to conduct a seismographic survey, including the right to ingress and egress across our land in Shelby county.

They are offering a whopping $15.00 an acre...

First of all what is this? What exactally do they want to do?
And, are they serious? $15.00 an acre!

I also received a letter from Seitel Data stating the same thing. My land is currently not leased, so I'm confused as to why they would want to conduct a seismographic survey.
Some O&G company has hired them to run a seismic survey to determine the potential of oil and gas. This could be a good thing if they get positive results. Might lead to a lease offer. Not sure what the going rate would be in your area.
What if they don't get positive results? would you then be left out, so to speak?

There is an active well less than a half a mile from our property. It's the Sample well. From what I understand it's big time. We also have a capped gas well on our property. We're in the Stricklan survey if that helps. Thanks for replying to my post.
SNETX, generally initial offers are $15 an acre for access but I believe some people in other areas have received up to $30 per acre.
