So, what is the objective of Global in trying to do a seismic survey of my area?

A few weeks back I recieved a letter asking to allow a sesimic survey.

Needless to say, I just tossed it in the trash, but a fellow came around a while later and tried to give me the paperwork again. I just told him I'm not interested.

I understand that they sell the information to the drillers, but what other advantage does having the rights to seisimic surveys on property give them?

That is their business, they shoot seismic and sell it or shoot seismic on contract for someone. Global has shot a 3D for Petrohawk and is now shooting one for BEUSA.
Where are you located? They left a message on our phone saying they were coming back to do it again about a mt. ago. We haven't seen anything of them, yet. Heflin area near Bienville Parish.

I am near Bisteneau State park but the shoot is hundreds of miles in area.
The seismic survey is most important to evaluate anomalous conditions which might be favorable to accumulation of oil and/or gas. From this information structural maps can be constructed to be used in selection of locations to drill. Without a certain amount of geophysical and geologic data there would not be much drilling done.

I worked in geophsical industry for a number of years for Independent Exploration Co. We were always under contract to a specific company wherever we worked. My experience was in 50's and 60's. I do not know if there are companies who do this work w/out being under contract. Perhaps, but I would consider that to be a very high risk business.

Personally, I would welcome any geophysical company on my land with certain stipulations. I understand that most companies pay landowner a trespass or access fee. Unless you own large tract of land they can probably bypass your proerty anyway.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
