We have some mineral rights in Shelby County (H. L. Wiggins survey, A763 and Alfred Lout survey, A-427)/  I joined this discussion group last year in an effort to learn what was going on and learned that wells had been drilled north of our track, which was leased to Ellora Land Holdings.  My wife called Ellora in Center, and they told her that the lease had been sold to Chesapeake and may have then been transferred to XTO.  I would like to find out what company has the lease but don't know how to go about getting the information.  I would appreciate any help you can give us.  Would also like to know about recent drilling activity in this area if possible.  Thank you.

Jim---You are the Lessor--- if you have a lease and Ellora sold it to Chesapeak then Ellora should be able to give you a reference person and number to call Chesapeake for information to verify who owns your lease ( the Lessee) today. Read you lease to see if they are required to notify you when lease changes hands. This is something you must have put in your lease since I don't think is in standard 88 lease form. If not in your lease then the only thing you can do otherwise now is keep calling until you find some one to help you with Ellora or CHK to tell you who your lessee is today. You need this info so if lease expire you will know who to contact for them to file release of lease for record. Good luck  XTO has permitted couple shale wells in area but do not know if has been spud to date--suggest check with jffree1 she keep good track of wells spud
Thanks Adubu.  The lessor thing shows my ignorance about leasing.  We will definitely pursue the Ellora angle.  If we lease again, I will ask to have the notification clause included.  jffree1 does indeed do a great job of tracking drilling and well status.

Jim G., do you know where your minerals are located within the Wiggins survey?  XTO has four well units that encompass part of the survey.  They are Vols DU #1H, Bulls DU #1H, Orangemen DU #1H and Commodores DU #1H. You can look at my XTO list to see the status on these wells but here are links to the unit plats:

In the Lout Survey, Chesapeake is drilling (now) the Jeannine #1H from the northeast region of the survey.

You might contact Katie McCullin and ask her to help you find the right person to ask about your lease.

The short answer to your question is no I don't know the precise location of the minerals, but I am going to try to figure it out from the links you sent.  Thank you very much for your reply.

Go to Shelby County to the records office and ask to see the reverse index cards.  Look for the cards for the survey you are in.  The cards will be a snap shot of everything that has ever been done within that survey in the way of purchases, trades, leases ect.   Once you have the right index card it will have the volume and page number that shows who owns the lease now.  I forgot what the name of this place was that I went to but you have to pay to uses their items.  It's worth paying because they have the index cards for you to use.  That is the place where most land men go within Shelby County.  Sometimes getting info out of these oil companies is very hard.  It's located less than a mile from the county records office.  If you call the records office of the county they will give you the name and address of the company that I’m speaking of.

This is good to know TT.  My wife was born in Center and grew up there.  However, we live out of state now, making it difficult to personally go to record offices.
TT--- any place the reverse index cards can be obtained online??

You can look at reverse or direct, and view the instrument, and print for $1/page.  Good luck.
