Classic Operating has filed for a permit {USA Courtney 2H} in the NA Middleton Survey {489} in Shelby County for a Travis Peak Horizontal.  Stated Target depth 8,700 ft. with total depth of 12,300, this would be a 3600 ft horizontal.

Has any operator every drilled a Travis Peak horizontal in this area and if so what were the results.  Jffree maybe you could answer this of the top of you head.

adubu and jffree1,

From what I am told, by the TRRC, the total depth on the permit does not necessarily include the horizontal leg.

Assuming this is true, could it be that  Classic will drill to the total vertical depth of 12,300 ft. or thereabout in a test and come back up hole and complete in the TP.

This might explain some of the ambiguity in the statement from Classic.

That is a possibility.

Hi Adubu!

One reason it is a horizontal is that it is being drilled on private land and horizontaled out to the national forest.  It was landlocked; as you know, it is time consuming to work with govt. so they purchased private land.  They will just horizontal out to the govt.  This is a USA Unit.
