Billy, the first well drilled and producing from a unit is referred to as the designated "Unit Well".  Any additional wells completed and producing from the same unit are designated as "Alternate Unit Wells".

 

The well permit will include sufficient information to show if a well with a surface location in an adjacent unit is completed and producing from your section.

The first well to a specific formation is the unit well.  All that follow are alternate unit wells.  Haynesville Shale units qualify for 80 acre spacing so a standard governmental section of 640 acres could have eight total wells.  SONRIS Lite organizes all wells by their surface location.  When you find a well located in one section but the well name contains the number of an adjoining section, you have the rather common instance where the unit is being drilled from next door.  Also in the SONRIS Lite Well File under the Scout Report, the fist or bottom line of the report gives the surface location and the Bottom Hole Location (PBHL).  The section referenced in the PBHL description is the section being produced.

Hello I'm also in this section and had not heard of another well yet. But I'm also in breedlove 36 and they are fracking another well in 36 that I had not heard about. So hopefully they putting another well in. I will keep my fingers crossed!

Lisa, there is no information showing another well in S36-T14N-R10W.

 

Shell has permitted well with a surface location in Section 36 that will be drilled into the section to the south.

Lisa, I think I am getting a little of the picture now.  The well you are talking about will be started on section 36 but it will eventually get gas from the section south of you because the drilling at some point will turn south.

The well's surface location (pad) is in Section 36 of 14N - 10W.  The horizontal portion of the well will be drilled south into Section 1 of 13N - 10W.  You are correct, billy.

Skip, I guess I should be paying attention to what is happening on the sections around me.  How far is a typical horizontal well likely to measure from it's point of origin?

In a standard governmental section one mile square, the longest length lateral allowed to be perforated by state regulations is 4620'.  There is no limit on how much longer the lateral may be drilled but usual development is that drill sites are relatively close to the section line.  Download a township grid so you can identify the sections immediately around you paying specific attention to the sections immediately north and south.

Ok I see I guess the confusion was when I looked it up on sonris it only shows our section. Boy that is still a little disappointing but I sure am glad I found out from y'all. Thank you so much for the information. One more thing when I looked on sonris there is a section 22 in our area and they show more then six Wells going up on this section. Do they normally do that? And how do you find. Out if a slant drilling is going on under ones property?

Lisa, there is only one Haynesville Shale well drilled into Section 22 and it has a surface location in Section 27.  The four Haynesville Shale wells in Section 22 are drilled into adjacent sections.

 

You need to check both your section and adjacent sections for wells that are planned to be drilled into your section.  Look at the well name and planned bottom hole location.  For example the 22 in well name of the following well means it is targeted for Section 22.
