I can't believe that we are even considering giving/loaning our hard earned tax dollars to companies that have continually made poor choices.

There is a reason why Honda, Toyota, BMW, Nisson, and Mecedes-Benz are building plants in this country and GM, Ford, and Chrysler are closing theirs.

Let them go itno Bankruptcy and I bet they emerge stronger than ever before.

If cng vehicles were built in mass, the price would be the same as for standard gasline vehicles.

Gm and Ford will not just vanish.They will go into bankruptcy, retool, reshape, and emerge stronger.

We can not base our economy on building more cars and more roads. We need to take the bailout money and spend it on alternative fuels and more importantly, mass transit.
I should say that I wish all auto workers the best. They are hardworking good people.

But Detroit has failed to adapt. Not just recntly, but over and over since the first arab oil embargo. It is a shame the American worker has to suffer because of incompetent mangagment.
I agree, it is the hardworking employees that will suffer the fate of the industry. The executives will not miss a meal.

I think some of this can be contributed to simply bad timing. Chevy was geared to introduce the Volt in 2010, but they indicated that some of the bailout money would be used to expedite the production of the Volt. While it is not a NGV, it does show some commitment to change.
Or a publicity stunt.
I did not and still do not support the AIG bailout.

Fannie and Freddie....Thats a whole other mess, they were government chartered companies trying to give more mortgages like they were told by the idiots on both sides of the aisle in congress.

I also don't think the foreign cars are given any advantages.

I own a Honda. My last car was a Honda, and my next car will probally be a Honda. My car was not cheaper than a comaprable GM car. It was better.

I paid more because my car is RELIABLE. I turn the key, it starts. In 80,000 miles it has never had any problems, just routine maintenance.

It has held its value!!!

If we go to war, we can just sieze the appropriate countrys plants in Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, Alabama, Mississpi, and so on.

I don't buy the arguement that GM is going to vanish if they don't get their hand out.

They will probally go bankrupt.

They will reorganize. (which they will do anyway)

They will continue to operate, just at a lower capacity. Which if sales don't pick up, will happen anyway.

They will emerge stronger.
They will emerge stronger, but only if the govt. will get out of the way and let them do what they have to do to re-organize. All of these govt. band-aids just prolong any hope for a recovery. The markets will lead the way, and if there is no place for a GM or Ford as they stand now then so be it.
When was the last time you owned a American car? I have driven American cars since 1956 and have not experienced poor performance, handling miserably, shake, rattle, roll ( sounds like a old Elvis song). Have owned nothing but GM and Ford products plus driving company cars that were GM & Ford products and put some HARD miles on them on dirt roads in Norh La. that would jar your teeth loose. The only major problem i every had was in the late 70's and early 80's with the paint peeling. You can get lemon in any make of vehicle, tv or whatever. At least GM and Ford has not tried to cover recalls like some of the imports have done.

I just got my Consumer Reports Buyers Guide a week or so ago. You should see the recomandations. Mostly Foreign at the top.
I've never owned nor intend to own a foreign car but I have driven a number of different one's. No real turn on for me.
Maybe if Detroit survives, he can sell it for some truck commercials.
What do you mean???? Keep buying the import products and see where the USA will be in the future.
