Hello,
My sister, two aunts, and I own 80 acres of undivided property in Claiborne Parish:
Section 3, Township 22 North Range 8 West, Northeast Quarter of the Northwest Quarter and
Section 34 Township 23 North, Range 8 West, Southeast Quarter of the Southwest Quarter.
We have received an offer for $300 per net mineral acre, a 1/5 royalty, and a 4-year paid up term.
I am not sure if this is the going offer. Can anyone advise us about this and also can anyone recommend a good lawyer who would look over the lease for a reasonable fee. None of us live in Louisiana any more.
Thank you,
Sandra

Great, thanks for responding and setting me straight on where I should post :) I've posted it there. Hopefully I'll get some more replies! Thanks for the attorney suggestion also.
sandra, when you post a discussion in a Group all the members get an email alerting them to the new discussion. That doesn't happen when you post to the Main Page. And for location specific questions the specific group is the best place to post. You should also look through the previous discussions posted there. There are only a few on the group's main page.To access the discussion in the archive, go to the bottom of the group main page and click on View All. You can also search those discussions using a key word or words.
Thank you for all of your information. I have a few more replies now, and I'm sure it's because I posted to the group. I appreciate the help as I try to make an informed decision. If you know of anything else to help me use the site better, please let me know.

Sandra,
I Suggest that you find out the plans of the proposed leasing company . You do not want to lease to someone who is speculating on flipping the lease. Given the activity of Whiting in this area if I could not get info I would contact Whiting land department directly to see if they are interested in leasing your land.
I don't like 3 year option, but all persons I know in the area who leased to Whiting had to give option.
You might try attorney John Frazier in Shreveport. I like him for oil and gas issues.
Thank you very much. It's good to have more than one attorney's name.

Thank you! I am so happy to have more than one attorney to check with on this important issue. Sandra
Sandra,
Try David Post in Farmerville. He is up on the O&G and can give you great support.
Thank you for the referral. I really appreciate having recommendations.

Does anyone know anything about Marlin Exploration LLC? Thanks. Sandra

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
