Peabody Energy Corp. and Conoco Phillips are planning a coal to natural gas conversion plant in KY. Now, in addition to an increase in LNG imports for storage, how will "synthetic" natural gas be marketed and will it be a competitor for ng?

Sesport, there are likely numerous power plants in the NW Louisiana & East Texas area but not sure how many are coal powered. There is Cleco's Dolete Hills lignite plant (see link) in De Soto Parish but I don't know if it would be a candidate. It is possible to sequester CO2 from gas fired power plants but coal/lignite fired power plants have more incentive because they emit ~ 2600 lbs CO2 per MWh versus gas plant's emissions at ~ 800 lbs CO2 per MWh.

There also might be oil fields in the area that could be candidates for enhanced recovery with CO2 injection.

Nothing will happen until the Feds slap a large CO2 fee on coal fired power plants.

At one time, around WWII, didn't they manufacture gas from wood?
