I'm new to the group. Have leased minerals and Petrohawk has done survey in Jesse Sullins and shown us where well will be but haven't heard a word in months. What happened to the Lane and Bowers wells? Is Petrohawk giving up on us? My lease expires in Dec.

have you heard of the texas railroad commision? they are the state of texas governing agency in charge of all things oil and gas. i suggest you go to their web site and par-take in their tutorial on how to navigate and use the resources they have. you can look up wells , permits and other information. sad to say they do not have info on when companies will begin operations on a given piece of property.
hope this leads you in the right direction and dont hessitate to ask questions on this web site there are some very helpful people.

What part of Shelby are you in? I am kinda in same boat where Petrohawk is concerned...I haven't heard anything in a while and mine expires in July. I think my area has to do with pipeline issues.
linda and laurie,
i remember some discussion recently about petrohawk pulling out of n/w shelby county. i think it may have been on main page discussions. you can access those archives by clicking view all discussions . there may be an advanced option to search by key word.
i would like to point out that if yalls leases expire dont despair. i signed 3 leases in a row last one right after a dry hole was drilled. each lease was allowed to expire and new terms were negoaited in the new lease. this process took almost 10 years. just as my current lease was about to expire they jumped on , started drilling, kept the lease in effect with ongoing operations, and brought in a very decent well.

Thanks John, I do know about the RRC website. Watch for news of those two wells every day. Nada! I sure hope it doesn't take 10 years. I might not be here then. Be nice for the grandchildren though! Oh well, que sera sera (whatever will be will be). Nice talking to you. Wish us luck.
Laurie, We are about a mile out of Tenaha on the right on FM 947, Jesse Sullins Survey.
Yep...me too...down 947 on cr4688...I was contacted by Petrohawk to release but did not agree at this time. i decided to wait until lease expires and will consider something then.
I'm guessing that you were contacted in December by David Darden (petrohawk)...if so I will tell you that he is no longer working for Petrohawk...don't know what that means but he said it is very common to be let go once job is complete...he also stated that Petrohawk would not have been spending all this money unless intended to drill...
Linda: The Bowers well was drilled vertically logged and 4 1/2" casing set &cemented. The well was completed in the Smackover and flowed at the rate of 1000mcf/day initially then declined rapidly to an uneconomic rate. The gas also had h2s and a high concentration of co2. The well was then plugged back and the Lower Bossier (Haynesville)perforated and fraced. The results are very dissppointing as the well makes only a few mcf per day.The Lane well was also drilled vertically with the shale cored and the well logged. The cores of the shale were not promising. This well was also never drilled horizontally although this operation ws begun but abandoned due to core results and hole problems. The well was completed in the Travis Peak Formation and the last information was that the well was flowing water with a a small amount of gas. The word is that Petrohawk abandoned any additional planned operations in this part of Shelby County. Sorry but we are in the same boat. Bill
Bill, do you think this was caused by a poor job of drilling? It is hard for me to believe that there isn't any gas in the area. I know of another well that is approximately a mile from our land (Larcie Gas Unit) that was producing 1ml a day for over a year in the Cotton Valley. They are permitted to drill another in that unit. Not sure if it has been completed yet. I realize they sunk a lot of money into those two wells for them not to produce. But we are a little farther north and east and they already had the unit defined (so they said). I guess I better keep my job and make that bonus last a long, long time. Ha! Should we pull up the survey stakes or leave them alone? Linda
What daddy bill has stated is what I've heard first hand. Frankly, I've been hearing it for several months now. Looking at the postulated maps of the play it is looking like several are accurate in that they are ruling out NW Shelby County. The Larcie and the other older good producers in that area are producing from the Cotton Valley Lime (CVL). Not sure but Petrohawk may not have the rights to the CVL in that area.
No wells have been drilled on our minerals and the way our lease is worded, we reserved anything 100 ft below the lowest depth drilled. So, that means they can drill in the Cotton Valley Lime or any other formation. We reserved anything 100ft below the last turn on the drill bit so anything above it is open if not held by production. Our backproperty line is Shelby/Panola Co. Who's to say that our spot is not sweeter than where they drilled farther south and west? Hopefully, someone will want our gas someday. My deceased father waited his whole life for a well to be drilled on his land and now I've waited for 25 yrs. It was nice to dream for a little while. You would think Petrohawk would have had to courtesy to call us and tell us that they were pulling out. Thanks for the info.
