Haynesville And Middle Bossier Shale Acreage Sought After In East Texas Counties
There are a lot of companies joint venturing , farming in, purchasing acreage from each other and acquiring any new leases that are still available for lease in this play. The companies want a larger position than they already have to develop and explore in this highly sought after area of these two great shale plays that overlap each other. With the spacing of 80 acres per well for both the Haynesville and the Middle Bossier , there could be as many as 4-5,000 wells drilled in Sabine County, 9-10,000 wells drilled in Shelby County, and 6,-7,000 wells drilled in San Augustine County , 4-5,000 wells drilled in Nacogdoches County and 3-4,000 wells drilled in Angelena County. The amount of predicted wells don't include the James Lime, Pettit,Travis Peak, Knowles Lime, Cotton Valley Haynesville Lime or other formations that probably will add several thousand more wells in these counties that will be drilled sooner or later. The Boom is on for the southern half of East Texas and will continue for a very long time for full development and exploration. This is great for this area of Texas. Rigs are moving in this southern direction more and more as time goes on. New pipelines will be needed soon.

How can I get further information about the St. Mary Lewis Well No. 1H project, that will be useful to me?

I have leases with St. Mary in the J. Bittick Survey, A-55, that will expire in early 2011, and I would like to know what is happening there. But I live out of the state.

St. Mary Land & Exploration (Now known as SM ENERGY), Lewis Well is actually more to the North. in the Bland Lake area.
  • Willis Bodine

Could you give us a closer location for SM Lewis # 1-H in the J. Bittick Survey?

SM Bland Lake #1 is in the Edmund Quirk Grant A-35, LAT 31º 35' 17. 16" LON 094º 06' 09. 09" , just across FM 1279 from my present lease.

That's why I am so interested. Thanks!

    Willis
  • jffree1

Willis B, look at the "St. Mary News" discussion for the Lewis #1H location.
  • Willis Bodine

Thanks! I have studied your Google map at "St. Mary News" marked with location of SM Lewis# 1-H exploration well. This is the area of one of my leases, actually about 200 feet from where my 3G-grandfather is buried in an unkempt cemetery. We found TGC survey tape along that dirt road during a visit last November.

The GPS numbers at the bottom do not quite add up for me. Could you share the source of your location information? If it is on line somewhere, I don't know how to find it.
  • jffree1

The GPS numbers at the bottom of the shot don't refer to anything but my cursor location when I saved the image. I map those locations using the Lat./Long. from the operators unit maps. It isn't precise (with Google Earth) but it gets you quite close.
  • jffree1

Go back to St. Mary News and I'll post the unit plat.
  • Willis Bodine

Got the plat last night. Thanks!

It is interesting (if I read correctly) that St Mary Lewis #1 is at about the same latitude as St Mary Ironosa #1-H. The laterals extend southward from Ironosa, but will go northward and about twice as far from Lewis.

On the Lewis plat I see marked the Bodine cemetery that we visited in November. As a child, my dad fished and swam in Bland Lake, just west of St Mary Bland Lake #1. So I do feel connected with the area.

Can some one explain why Cabot shut this well in Geer gas unit 405-53326
  • Janna

Can nyone tell me what being in a unit means? Does is mean they are planning on drilling?
  • jffree1

For a mineral owner it means that your acreage has been included in a pooled unit with other owners who will all share a royalty percentage on production from wells in that unit. So, yes, it generally means they are planning to drill.
  • Janna

    Thanks jffree1, I hope so
  • JWC

looked at the Baker Huges Rig Count and it shows a well South of 103. Anyone noticed that? What well is it?
  • jffree1

Baker Hughes got that one wrong, JWC. It is the Warriors DU #1H which has a surface location in the Zanco survey on the north side of FM 711... nowhere near where it appears on the rig map.
  • JWC

haha. Just my luckjffree1. It was setting right on top of me.
  • jffree1

I promise you... if anyone is putting up a rig on Ayish Bayou (that far south), you will know about it well before-hand.

Yeah I was just down there...no rig in sight.

Have any wells been drilled south of hwy 103?

Nope, not yet. That could change if Goodrich has good results from the one they are drilling in Angelina Co. just south of 103 at the county line.

St. Mary Energy's new Clark #1-H well site is 3.4 miles north of San Augustine, not east. As in their Lewis #1-H a few hundred feet away, the "direction from the nearest town" is listed incorrectly on the RRC application.

See a good discussion, listed under the name of the well, elsewhere on this GoHaynesville web site.
