Charles, this new Smackover unit is approximately four miles due east of your minerals. Where units are being formed, leasing is likely taking place. The way to find out is to go by the Union Parish Clerk of Court's office and review the day book to see what companies are recording leases and for which sections. Good Luck.
I recently spoke to Doti Eubanks (clerk of court) and she told me that the number of leases being recorded appears to be no where near the number that were being signed. She said she has heard of several lease signings but none have been recorded.
Sometimes oil companies hold back filing their leases so other oil and gas companies dont know what they are leasing, and where they are located!
In 2008 they drilled a Smackover well on my mother's land TD 8-22-08. Mitcham Heirs #1 Smackover RA SUG it is in Sect 35-21n-3w. It has never been produced supposedly because of the % of H 2 S in the gas. When they flared the well it was very impressive!
Joesph & Charles, I'm not familiar with the specific treatment facilities required to deal with H2S but I would expect the capital expense may require more than one well in production.
Skip, thank you for your insight. I had not thought about that possibility.
