The following is a list of "super" Haynesville Shale wells. To make this list a well has to test at a rate of at least 20 MMcfd with a flowing pressure of greater than 8000 psi. It is difficult to compare the wells on this list because of differences in other factors such as choke size and number of frac stages.

The list includes 31 wells in Louisiana and 4 in Texas. Of the Louisiana wells, 21 were located in Red River Parish. EnCana was the operator for 13 of the completions followed by Petrohawk (10) and Questar (5).

I am patiently waiting for them to scoot over just a little bit to bossier parish, 17n 11w sec 36.
Hi Les,

Great job. You need to figure out what to do about wells such as George Lormand 5, #239,991, 5/13/11. It was completed on March 4, 2010 and produced 734,431 MCF in March, or 27,201 MCF/d for 27 days. The only missing link for your test is pressure for the 27 days. It clearly qualifies on production and it isn't a 24 hour IP. For its SDM2G test, ECA did not report flowing pressure, but its DT-1 test reported CP as 8,624# on a 19/64 choke. FP often gets reported as CP on Sonris. All I know it is a hell of a well, producing 1.662 bcf in 88 days.

I believe this is the well that shows on ECA's presentation as having an IP of 37 MMcfd.
Yes - wasn't it described as having an early rise up to a 37 MMcf peak during the first month of production? (was it the one with the second valve that was opened up?) - or as a possible example of a well that "cleaned up"? Since Les is pairing reported pressure and IP together maybe it is more consistent for his list to use data from the same test or data set? There wasn't a pressure report for the day(s) that they recorded 37 MMcf was there?
Not to my knowledge. If Sonris would require some pressure & choke reporting, PLUS individual well reporting, PLUS Unit reporting, then it would be better data. Once a second well goes in a unit, you cannot calculate any decline.

The production curve is on ECA's latest presentation. Clearly marked as peaking at 37 MMcfd.
LL, the EnCana well in Texas was the one that increased from 25 MMcfd to 32 MMcfd when the 2nd wing valve was added.

The George Lormand 4 H1 Well appears to have hit the 37 MMcfd within days of being placed on production.
WR, actually the George Lormand 4 was the 37 MMcfd well as the timing matched and it was completed with 20 frac stages. The GL 5 well was completed with 14 frac stages.

EnCana, George Lormand 4 #H1 Well, Serial #239966, S4-T13N-R11W, Red River Parish, (37000) 28751 Mcfd, 29/64" Choke, 8519 psi Flowing Pressure
You are correct, as usual.I love your pursuit of accuracy. Thanks!

Nevertheless, the Lormand 5 produced 27 MMCFD for 27 days. So it is demonstrably better than many of the wells on your list, which are 24 hour IPs.
Les,
I'm guessing Petrohawk will never make this list again, if they continue their program of choking back all wells to the level of 8 - 10 mmcfe/day? We should remember that they could produce some super wells, but choose not to.
Henry, it is not clear those wells would still flow at over 8000 psi if the rate was increased to above 20 MMcfd. So those choked back wells would not necessarily make the list.
Questar, Jimmy Woodard 34 #H2 Well, Serial #239653, S34-T15N-R9W, Bienville Parish, 23772 Mcfd, 25/64" Choke, 8250 psi Flowing Pressure, 16 Stages

Questar, Jimmy Woodard 34(27) #H1 Well, Serial #239627, S34(27)-T15N-R9W, Bienville Parish, 22317 Mcfd, 20/64" Choke, 8300 psi Flowing Pressure, 16 Stages

Questar really liked these two wells. They are already drilling two alternate wells in the same two sections, J Woodard 27-15-9 H, Serial #241388 and J Woodard 34-15-9 H, Serial#241203. The drilling location is on US Highway 371, almost a mile north of the Bienville/Red River Parish line. You can't miss the rig.
Hey,
We have land in that section///Jimmy is my cousin...
Thanks,
Charles Woodard
interesting to see the variety in the number of frac stages. just in the top 5 or 6, it varies between 12 and 20. if the ones that had 12 frac stages had done additional stages, would that have increased the well flow? or do operators push it as far as they can without causing damage to the formation? meaning each well has individual needs? does anyone have insight into what the process is for designing a frac job?

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
