Drilling permit filed today! It will be called Blackstone Unit A-17. What may be surprising is it only shows 41 acres???

Now that I see the plat, I see that it is 440.7 acres - all Blackstone (big surprise). Looks like it starts in A-17, goes north, and ends in A-352. Still hope for big results, since that will make the surrounding acres more valuable in the future.

What is with Encana? Four wells permitted this year - virtually all royalties going to Blackstone or Exxon.

A-43 #1H and #2H - 672 out of 704 acres to Blackstone (95.5%)
A-398 - 704 acres - 201.15 acres Exxon, the rest Blackstone
A-17 - 100% Blackstone

Do they only like to pay fellow big-boys royalties, and hate to pay the little guys? For instance, on A-17, it looks like they could have drilled along 103, but instead went 3/4 of a mile north (on a rough road) to get to a site that was 100% Blackstone. I am not seeing other drillers doing this.

Steve, they signed a couple of leases with Blackstone Minerals and Forestar (Temple-Inland) back in 2008 and picked up a lot of acreage that they now have to drill. When it fits into a unit, they are leasing additional private landowners around the Blackstone interests. They have leased individuals in and around all three of these well units and unit that starts out at 200 acres could end up being 700-900 acres before all is said and done.

Julie, let me see if I understand. Are you saying that just because A-17 starts out at 441 acres, doesn't mean it won't finish at 704 acres (like the other wells)? That folks who are adjacent to this unit may get added at a later date?

That's right. Units are amended all the time.

Didn't Encana lease a lot of land pretty far South in San Augustine and Sabine Counties?
