Many posters on this website began their stand against MNLU over a year ago. These participants are not capable or not willing to think with an open mind - and thinking with an open mind is what has advanced and will continue to advance the petroleum industry. Our industry is rapidly leaving individuals like these behind.
My first experience on blogs like this was back in August '98 (although it wasn't called a blog). It was made up of mostly trash talkin, pumpin and dumpin, name callin punks discussing various stocks. We had one thread that was something like 20,000 posts.....crazy stuff. There were always a half dozen of us who really enjoyed the sharing of relavent information. Unfortunately, it took way too much time having to weed through the 90% of bs.
I own stock in MNLU only because I know what they are doing. (There's nothing more exciting than investing in a stock where you actually know (or know of) the movers and shakers involved directly with the company). In as much as they will not give me 'insider' info (believe me, I've tried), it's not hard to deduce what's happening when I talk with various contacts. As I said earlier, I have first hand knowledge of the history of this Buena Vista area as it relates to who's raised capital to drill, who's paid us for leases, who's succeeded and who's failed. This goes back to Anderson Oil, Bruxoil and a dozen other concerns and wildcaters (sic). I hesitated in buying the stock only because I have plenty of mineral acres that cost me $zero and will far out weigh any stock gains. But I love the thrill of the stock market and have for 40+ years.....so I had to jump in ;-/
I can honestly say that this time around feels exactly like it did in 1981 with Chevron.....only better! Nothing is guaranteed, but the more I learn about the mechanics of what they are doing, who's doing it and why they're doing it.......the more psyched I get. The names of the people behind this are some of the same names that were involved in 1981. In fact, one principal person has been almost begging companies to drill in this spot for over 20 years now.....and he's really psyched with the results so far. And what's also nice to see is that their PRs are very truthful and not hyped.
This is the real deal, folks. But as Jeff says, there are a few 'mechanical' things that can still go wrong that could kill the project. I'm betting on Mainland all the way!
Nice postings on this article. Many years ago 1984-85 Sohio drillied a well near Wildsville LA.I had the good fortune or bad luck to have worked the mud on this job. It was a 25,000 +/- TD.
I can't remember all the details but we encouterred the Cotton Valley, Smacker, and perhaps Hanesville. The depth of this well required multiple strings of casing and the objective at TD was kept Hush Hush. They had a guard at the gate and no one was allowed in or out unless you had business in there. They attempted to complete the bottom sand but it was tight and didn't cooperate. The strings of casing as they were set overlapped made higher formations
unproduceable. I don't remember much more about it but to me it would seem very unusual for the bossier or hanesvilles to be that thick at the depth they are talking about.
Jay, its good to know we have another mud engineer watching this thread. The SOHIO well was talked about earlier in this(long) thread of posts. A well like Mainland drilled could have a huge economic benifit for Jefferson County and possibly Tensas and Concordia Parishes, if it can produce like some Haynesville shale wells does around Shreveport. I only mentioned these 3 counties/parishes because they are the only ones that I have seen mentioned, that Mainland has acreage leased in.
I have a lot of hope that it does pan out. BUT with it being a shale, is it fractured enough to produce from a straight hole, will it have to be drilled horizontally, can a horizontal section even be drilled at this depth? I know there have been a lot of advances in directional tools over the past few years, I just dont know if they can handle the temps at this depth. I've used a "Drill Cool" system before for BP in the Tusc trend to keep directional tools cooled, while tripping and drilling. It would definately lengthen the time to drill the well and increase well costs quite a bit.
Curiosity here....
Assuming gas prices are say $5MMcf. Is there a typical ($ or %) range that one can figure would be deducted for expenses on a typical well....or more specifically, the Burkley/Phillips well? I've checked out other threads and it seems to vary.
Thanks
Hey Bill.....no, I have no idea what your area would be worth. But what I can do is scan one of the maps I have that shows the exact configuration of the Buena Vista (mainland and island) and Ashland. I have drawn a scale on it if that helps. I think if you scale it and overlay it on your map, you might get a better idea of the size of the relative parcels.
Good luck

This one you can zoom in as much as you need to and look east/west etc.
The area that is outlined in red... is that the acreage that Mainland has leased? What about the area outlined in blue?
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
