Horizontal well now proposed for state line area in Claiborne Parish

As reported this week by The Haynesville News and reported independently by North LA at another discussion group on GHS, T. S. Dudley Land Co is proposing a 1045-acre drillimg and production unit consisting of Sections 6 and 7 of T23N R5W of Claiborne Parish.

A legal notice in The Haynesville News says the well will have a likely measured depth of greater than 17,000 feet so it is almost certainly a horizontal well and the shape of the unit indicates the horizontal leg will be in a north-south direction, as seems to be usual for such wells. The hearing before the LA Department of Natural Resources is scheduled for August 9.

No reason except she and her siblings own land in same section as yours and it was part of a very large Smith family estate. She was sister of Carolyn Smith . And  I had helped them on leasing their part of land.

Yes I remember all of them.  I just don't get back down there as much as I should.  If you see her tell her that Sissy and Jackie say hellow and hope all is well.  Just wish Mom and Dad and Al had lived to finally see production in the area.

Fracking of the Garrett 7-23-5H well will begin tomorrow, March 1st, according to Steve Mueller, CEO of Southwestern Energy. He said some oil was seen in the pit during drilling of the lateral. I think the prospects for this well are very good, but I'm still not spending any money!

sounds promising...

Any news on the Garrett well?

We think it is in the flowback stage now, fracking having been completed and plugs drilled out. I see that SWN is scheduled to present at the Howard Weil Energy Conference on March 26 in New Orleans at 2:05 pm. There will be no webcast, but hopefully SWN will post something at their site or some other internet sites will report what is said.

As most everyone probably knows by now, SWN says the Garrett well so far has had a peak production of 300 barrels of oil and 1.7 million cubic feet of gas per day. Steve Mueller, CEO of SWN, says they basically need to find a way to double this initial production rate to make the well economically viable. They are now testing in their third well in Union Parish the effect of using about twice as many perforation/frac stages per unit length. Hopefully, this is one way to significantly increase production, albeit with a higher cost. I think they have a few other variables they want to test such as whether or not to acidize and how much pressure to use in the fracturing.

I own land between sections 23 and 26,township 21North,Range 6 west not exactly familiar with townships and ranges ,would anyone happen to about how close this is to my property? Would it fall into the 1045 acre drill ? Any info would be appriciated thank you.

I think you are more than 12 miles from the state line and a good distance from this activity.

Thank you for the info Paul , it helps with a geographical idea as to the location . In reference to the state line is it the Texas or Arkansas line ? I'm glad this forum exists between you and Skipp it's helped a great deal .. Thanks

I am not to be placed in Skip's category. He is the real help for you and others.

It is the Arkansas stateline. You are in the 21 N township and most of the activity is in the 23 and 22 n townships in N Louisiana. Generally, there is a fault along the boundary between the 22n and 21n township line. That does not mean much as there are other formations of interest, and this whole play could move south.
