Does anyone have a report from NAPE? My grandson works for a survey company who has a booth each year at NAPE and he said it was a smaller showing than usual from East Texas and Northwest LA. He also thought the crowd was smaller and the overall attitude was more subdued. He did say a company was showing an oil play at 18,000 feet of depth in the Beaumont area which might be of interest to some of the southernmost Shalers.

Yes, congratulations, Jay. Did you see any trends in the prospects offered? Particularly, less oily prospects and more wet gas prospects?
Group:
Crowd did not appear smaller; restructuring of the floor plan resulted in wider aisles and consequently some better air movement through the pavilion. Less stuffy = perceived smaller numbers.
What was apparent was the presence of more adjunct interests not directly tied to buying and selling of prospects, which some exhibitors found troublesome. There were a lot more booths related to land services, lender services, VC and other financing, law firms, seismic / geophysical, etc. I personally heard several complaints by exhibitors about certain interests actively soliciting for services from prospect purveyors on the floor, to the point that exhibitors just about had to "run them off" to continue speaking to potential buyers and investors.
I found that there were a number of conventional and unconventional prospects available, although less emphasis on conventional then conventional, more liquids heavy than gas - IMO that's just reflective of the current state of the industry. The pendulum appeared to have swung back towards traditional prospects than just a few years ago, but emphasis on oil bearing shales - Eagle Ford, Utica, TMS, generally in that order was prominent.
With respect to LA, I was happy to see prospects in S LA starting to return to the exhibition; there were hardly any just a few years ago, but I still would like to see a few more personally. There were a few folks showing some N LA prospects (not HA related) and blocks for sale or promote.
Jay - I didn't see you (I don't think). What booth were you in?
Jay:
Guess you don't remember your booth number? Lol. Message me if you don't want to put it out here.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
